Many pet owners have a barking dog problem. Many different methods have been tried with little or no success. Some have been discussed here as to what might work best for your situation. It is probably advisable to consult with your veterinarian and/or dog behavior counsel for specific suggestions based on medical history, breed, age and overall temperament.

Factors to Consider in Choosing a Trainingf collar

Are you using the collar to punish your dog, or are you using the collar as adefense? Are you using the collar to stop excessive barking, or just to get your attention? If you want to stop barking behavior, and don't want to hurt your dog in any way, then a citronella bark collar might be just the thing for you. Examples include the Gentle Leader brand and the Bark collars. There are other types of no bark dog collars on the market, such as the Ultrasonic type and the thunder collar. Of the three, a thunder collar is the most humane.

Training your dog to stop barking is not a complicated matter of Pavlovian type salivation being set off by the appearance of a squirrel in the rear room. Actually training your dog to stop barking is a little more complicated than that, but not overly difficult. If you want to take a step in the right direction, then you will need to help him identify behavior that is appropriate to you, and which is the signal that he needs to be quiet. A conditioned response is needed, similar to what you would use with a verbal command or hand signal, of "quiet" for example. A word like "ness" should also be associated with the same word, because in the dogs world someone might be saying "ness" when they mean to say "quiet".

A barking dog problem can be as simple as not having enough toys or activity for the dog. Toys create an environment for the dog and keep him occupied when you need to leave him alone, when you are busy with other things. If your dog has too many toys to redirect his attention, he will find a way to get rid of them, usually by chewing. This is why it is important to supervise the dog when he has the opportunity to be alone.ciusmorph recommendation, therefore, is to make sure your dog has plenty to do, with or without your influence.

If your dog has a real barking problem, you might be experiencing more of the deep barking problem rather than the hello, sit, stay commands. This is a problem that takes training to solve. Because your dog is not able to choose the behavior he is doing, you must help him to know what you expect from him. This is done through consistency, and often is the most difficulty in training.

A basic rule to remember is that a consequence for bad behavior is a consequence for good behavior. This necessarily means that if your dog is barking and you want him to stop, it is a good idea to shake a can filled with coins. This means that you are doing something positive and the dog is not understanding what he is doing, he is merely responding to the new stimulus, which is the loud noise.

There are plenty of ways that a dog can learn what is expected from him, and why it is that he is doing certain things at certain times. Training takes time and patience, but again, it is time and patience that the dog will need to return the favor.

This is one of many teaching points in communicating with your dog. It is important to note that a dog that has an excessive barking problem will generally not respond to any kind of training, so the focus really needs to be on you and how you can communicate to your dog what is expected of him. If you are not consistent with your expectations, you will simply be teaching him to be a bad dog. There is no point in spending your time training a dog that will ignore you one minute and then expect him to obey the next. It simply is not possible.

In a nutshell, then, to stop your dog barking excessively, to teach him to behave, and to take time for you to understand why things happen is all a dog owner needs to be aware of.
