How Can Scented Toys Help Dogs?

According to new research, allowing dogs in kennels and rehoming centers to play with scented toys may increase their welfare, according to a team led by Hartpury University's Ben Brilot.

The researchers discovered that dogs were more inclined to play with rabbit or lavender-scented toys than with unscented toys. This new information shows that the aroma may be helpful itself, encouraging toy use.

Additionally, dogs exhibited more positive behavior in the presence of scented toys, such as investigating their kennel and any other objects included within, and periods of rest and sleep were more likely to occur. There is a connection between these behaviors and improved welfare. Therefore, it is possible that exhibiting these behaviors will raise the likelihood of being adopted from a rehoming center.

Playology: The World's Leading Manufacturer of Scented Toys

This great company is revolutionizing the industry with its products. Each toy is imbued with all-natural smells, constructed from extra-durable dog-safe materials, and designed for extended play. Dogs are olfactory creatures. Their sense of smell is ten thousand times more sensitive than ours! As dogs chew their Playology toys, the scent is released, which keeps dogs captivated for at least six months. The company employs extra-durable and dog-safe materials to construct these toys, and they squeak for added enjoyment. Each product complies with CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) lead and phthalate standards, reassuring dog owners.

Unfortunately, nearly 50% of dogs in the United States are overweight. However, we can now provide our pets with Playology toys since they smell so wonderful they don't require food to be fascinating. After all, dogs should not require food to engage in toy play. Instead, they should participate because they enjoy it!

Playology's new durable chew toys are some of our favorites because they last longer than others, and the scent keeps our pup Luca occupied. Our dog gladly field-tested these, with the peanut butter scent (blue) emerging as the winner. It is essential to say that when dogs are playing with these toys, they emit a noticeable smell, but it is not intolerable. Instead, it appears to increase the amount of time our dogs spend chewing on them. The Playolog toys come in various shapes, but our dog preferred the Chew Stick. They are easy to play with for large and small dogs to catch, carry, and even play tug with.

The following are some of the most popular Playology Toys on the market. However, they come in a variety of scents and forms. To discover more, click on the images!

What Is The Best Way To Scent Your Dog Toys?

Whether your dog already has a few favorite toys and you want to see if he might prefer different scents, continue reading. It's pretty easy to produce scented dog toys at home using four essential ingredients:

  • Hot water.
  • Ice-cold water.
  • An unscented toy (rubber, silicone, nylon, plush, or fleece toys).
  • Any essential oil that your dog enjoys.

And if you're not sure which scents your dog likes, try peppermint, frankincense, lavender, cedar, or vanilla!

Three Easy Steps to Create Scented Dog Toys

  1. Heat water in a bowl for 1–2 minutes, then immerse your dog's favorite toy in hot water for two minutes.
  2. Add a few drops of essential oil (or as much as you like) to boiling water and boil for at least 5–10 minutes with a toy.
  3. When the timer sounds, remove the toy from the boiling water and immerse it in ice-cold water for 4–5 seconds.

That's it; your dog's scented toy is now ready for play.
