14. Make sure your bond is strong with your dog

15. Clean up after your dog

1. Prepare Your Dog For Hiking – I highly recommend that you should train your partner for hiking before starting your journey. You can start with a long walk regularly for 1-2 hours daily. This will boost your dog’s stamina and make him habitual to a long walk. As Dogs can lift easily one-third of their weight, you should also train your dog to carry his stuff self. But keep in mind, don’t overload it.

2. Your Dog’s physical fitness – Make sure your dog is physically fit for hiking. I advise you to not go for a hike if your dog is not physically fit. If you are not able to find it you can go to the vet for his medical check-up. You can also tell the vet about your hiking plan.

3. Research Hiking Places – If it is your first time don’t choose any tough place for hiking. Search the popular hiking places for your first trip. After choosing your destination, I advise you to do some research about the place. You need to know about these primary things – its climate, wild animals, wild plants.

4. Stuff you carry with you – Don’t pack any unnecessary things like too much food, too much water, clothes, and more. It means to say don’t overload your bag or your partner’s bag. Choose a great number of things you carry with you.

5. First-Aid Kit - Before starting, make sure to put a First Aid kit for your dog because on hiking places you will not find any vet for your dog if accidentally, he gets injured.

6. Lighting for the night – Make you have arranged light for the night walk. At night it is very hard to see the path on which we are walking or see the things around us. We know dogs have great vision but in an unknown place, other things cannot be ignored.

7. Make a list – I also recommend that before hiking with your pet you should make a checklist of all things that you are planning to carry with you. We often forget the things we are in hurry. To remember pick all the necessary things you can make a checklist of your important things for your dog and of course for you too.

8. Water planning - Make sure to carry enough water to hydrate your pet dog. If you run out of water during a long journey, always fill water from a clean and tidy place. Prevent your dog from pine water from a dirty jug, this water can be dangerous for him.

9. Short breaks – During the journey, taking a short break is very important for you and your dog. It will help your dog to make his breathing rate normal and cool him down. The short break also makes our journey more enjoyable. You can see nature around you and please your eyes during the short break. Your dog will also love it and feel more energetic for the next start.

10. Dog ID tag – Make sure to put an ID tag on your dog’s neck with your contact information. You can also microchip your dog. If unfortunately, your dog gets lost and someone gets it, then the stranger can easily contact you.

11. Avoid restricted areas – Some pet parents get more excited for the first time, or some choose the wrong places or unknown places which will always lead to trouble. On the other hand, if you find or see any restricted area signboard during hiking with your dog, follow the rules and don’t break them. Otherwise, it may be harmful to you and your dog.

12 Bonding with dog – Your bonding with your dog must be strong for hiking which means your dog obeys you. On your calls, it should respond very immediately. Dog sees you as his master. You both understand each other.

13. Clean up after your dog – You will have to clean up after your dog. We know that nobody will be there to watch on you and your dog or nobody will smell it, but it is a sign of a great pet parent and responsible hiker to make the things clean after your dogs. Dogs will also learn a lesson from you. For this, you can carry a plastic bag with you.

Hiking with dogs is a great experience. That will make your bonding strong with your pet dog. I highly recommend you if you are a pet parent. You both will love this and enjoy it a lot. Exploring new things always gives our body and mind extreme happiness.
