Two Reasons You Should Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and Get to Know One of These Beautiful Animals

To some people, horses are extremely intimidating, and it's understandable why. They are very tall, heavy creatures that can at times be unpredictable. Of course anything with a mind of its own can be unpredictable to us, and that's part of what makes bonds with all kinds of animals so special. Although, unlike cats or dogs, horses are prey animals. Their first instinct is to be cautious and afraid of new things. That's why the connection you'll feel between a horse and yourself is even more precious than with most other animals. This does mean you have to be cautious around them, though.

The Feeling of Freedom

I'm sure most people have their own need for speed, and mine personally involves horses. Now not everyone will get to experience taking a horse galloping through a field, but anyone can take lessons and eventually feel the joy of trotting or cantering. Even though I have been riding for years, when I ask my horse to canter, I still get excited. The moment you start to go faster than a walk you feel as though you're flying. Everything else seems to fall away except for the horse and your immediate surroundings. If going fast isn't your thing, that's okay! There are so many places that offer trail rides in beautiful, natural areas. Getting away from the city and experiencing nature from the back of a horse is another way to feel free! You get to relax and enjoy the views without worrying about tripping over roots or large rocks in your path.

The Grounding Factor

It has been said to me that a horse aligns its chakras to match yours. Now I know there is no way to prove that, but I believe it to be true. Horses feed off of your energy. No matter what you're doing with them (i.e brushing, riding, bathing them, etc.), the horse will be affected by your emotions. Say you got into an argument with your significant other earlier that day and you were still mad by the time you reached the barn you were taking lessons at. The horse that you're working with will feel and react to the slightest changes in your demeanor. Whether you're being directly short-tempered with them, or you're tense causing your movements to be harder and more rigid, the horse WILL notice. That's why it's so important to practice your grounding technique when you're around them. Grounding isn't just useful for being around horses either, it's helpful in all areas of your life, and working with a horse is a great way to hone your technique.

So throw on some jeans, grab your boots (not high heeled boots), and go meet some horses! But make sure to leave your phone in the car. That way you won't be as tempted by distractions and not pay attention to what's going on around you. Using your phone for pictures is always an exception, though!
