Everything You Need to Have a Birthday Party for a Cat

A Guide to Party Success

So, it is almost your cat’s birthday! You should have a party. Yes, a cat birthday party! I don’t mean a cat-themed party for humans. I mean a birthday party where everything is meant for cats. In this article, you’ll find everything you need to have a successful kitty party!

Decorations

Low hanging streamers will be perfect for little paws to explore. We saved some streamers from our last human birthday party, so they were nice and crinkly, just how cats like them. I put these on the wall near the air vent. When the air blew, the streamers went crazy, which was highly amusing to the cats! Always be sure to supervise cats around low-hanging decorations. If they start chewing on the decorations, remove them or put them up higher. Nobody wants the party to have to end because someone is choking.

Cake

Cats do not have the taste buds that allow them to taste sweet things, so there is no need to make a cake with lots of sugar. Instead, use what kitties do enjoy. The first thing you’ll need is the pate type of cat food. With the pate kind, you can tip the can over, and the food will fall onto the plate in the shape of a cake. If you buy a more shreddy kind, it won’t work. I added tuna fish for frosting, and kitty treats as sprinkles. The cats loved it! Candles may not be a good idea for a cat cake. It could frighten the birthday cat. Even worse, if your cat is curious, he might try to touch the fire!

Guests (optional)

For many dogs, more is merrier. But cats can be the opposite. Some cats will get scared or overwhelmed by the addition of human, or animal, guests at the house. Your cat may prefer it if she just has her trusted family members at her party. My cat has two cat cousins and a dog cousin that she knows and loves, plus her dog sister, so we invited them. Whether the party is limited to just your family, or you invite some other humans and animals, be sure to limit it to a number of guests your cat will be comfortable with.

Catnip

You may want to sprinkle a little catnip on the floor for each cat guest at the beginning of the party, so that everyone feels relaxed and frisky. Cats can either sniff or eat catnip. ⅓ of cats do not get a reaction to catnip, so don’t be offended if some of your feline party goers seem bored by it. Don’t worry… cat’s can’t really “overdose” on catnip. If a cat eats too much of it, he might get an upset stomach, but as long as you are only supplying your cat with a little sprinkle, he should be able to enjoy it safely.

Party favors

Get some little toys like balls and stuffed mice. Make sure there is enough for all of the cats. If dogs are in attendance, you might want to include a few dog toys. At our party, I spread all of the cat toys out on the floor, and the cats chose the ones they wanted.

Cat champagne

Yes, there is such a thing! It is made out of catnip, water, and salmon oil. Our cats were not very enthused about it, but it is still fun to have on hand.

Bubbles

Many cats enjoy chasing bubbles, just like children! To make it even more fun, turn on a fan and let the bubbles blow around while the cats go crazy. If your cats haven’t had enough catnip by this point in the party, you may even want to buy catnip infused bubbles!

There you have it… everything you could possibly need to have a cat party! We hope your cats enjoy their birthdays.
