Dog Meditation
How to Meditate With Your Dog

Benefits of Dog Meditation
Meditating with your dog can bring about calmness and a feeling of serenity. It's a way to clear your mind of distractions and enjoy some quality time with your furry friend. This can be especially good at the end of a hectic day when you just want some time to relax.
Canine meditation can also help you focus better, reduce your stress levels, and even help you sleep better at night.
The benefits aren't just for humans, either. Your dog can also reap the benefits of this, as it can reduce any stress levels, along with giving your special pet a closer bonding experience with you. In fact, it can be quite therapeutic for dogs who suffer from separation anxiety.

How to Meditate With Your Dog
Wait until your dog is calm, then cuddle up with your pet. If you would like, put on some relaxing music. Just as music can have a calming effect on people, it can also be relaxing for dogs.
To get started, be sure you're wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe easily. Make the environment as quiet as possible to lessen any distractions. Start by taking a few deep breaths and focus on the air coming in and out of your body.
Clear your mind of all thoughts and only focus on your pet. If other thoughts come into your head, dismiss them as quickly as possible and go back to concentrating on your pup. Feel the warmth of your dog's body next to yours. Listen to its breathing. Keep all other thoughts out of your head and just concentrate on your best friend.
Try to imagine a warm glow around the two of you. Send your dog thoughts of love and feel the love your dog has for you. You should begin to feel calmer and more relaxed. Continue this for as long as you wish. There is no set time for how long someone should meditate.

Why Petting a Dog Is Good For You
If you feel like it, go ahead and pet your dog while meditating. It only leads to more relaxation. Even without meditating, petting is a good way to relieve stress. In fact, studies have shown that petting can reduce cortisol levels in the body, which is a stress hormone. It can also help with depression and improve one's mood.
In addition, stroking your dog can also reduce one's blood pressure. Besides health benefits, taking some time to pet a dog allows for one-on-one interaction between you and your canine, only strengthening the bond between the two of you.

Dog Walking Meditation
Although a walking meditation can be done anywhere, it's best to stay away from locations that are large and crowded. You want to avoid the distractions of loud noises and busy lights. If possible, take a walk in a natural setting; a park or hiking trail would do nicely.
Before beginning, take a moment to shut your eyes and take a few deep, cleansing breaths while clearing your mind. As you begin walking, concentrate on your body. Think about each step that you're taking and the rhythm of your steps. Truly feel the movement in your legs. Now, look at your dog. Focus on your pet's walk. Try to feel the rhythm of the steps and how your dog feels while walking.
Next, take some time to enjoy the nature around you. Really observe your surroundings. Do you hear any sounds, such as frogs croaking or birds chirping? What about the sound of a creek running?
Feel the sun covering your body. If it's warm outside, embrace the heat surrounding you. Look at all of the colors and textures of any trees, flowers, or plants you pass by. Feel how alive they are.
Now, observe nature once again; only this time, try to experience it as your dog would. Are there any interesting twigs on the ground that might catch your dog's eye? Perhaps there's a squirrel climbing up a tree? Could your pet be hearing the sound of another dog in the distance? Just use your imagination to best guess what your pup is experiencing. When finished, be sure to have some fresh water for both of you.
In conclusion, meditating with "man's best friend" is a way to strengthen the bond between the two of you and give you both the opportunity for some relaxation and quality time together. I hope the tips and techniques I've outlined above get both of you off to a great start!
