Bring Me the Cat
Best cat breeds for children

Older kids who can hold them gently are best suited for very little kitties. Although children still need to be taught how to properly and politely engage with cats, larger breeds are typically more resilient and may be better for younger children. Kids can play and spend a lot of time with active, energetic breeds, making them great companions.
Abyssinian
The shorthaired Abyssinian is a little cat that is exceptionally active, athletic, and outgoing. When taught how to appropriately engage with cats, these energetic cats can make excellent playmates for responsible children.
Their hair is short, solid, or ticked, and they can be fawn, red, cinnamon, or reddish. They have a lifespan of 15 years.
Abyssinians have a lot of energy and are gregarious, vivacious, lively, and playful. Due to their small size, these cats are better suited for older kids who can handle them carefully. This type is excellent for families and among the finest cat breeds for kids.
American Shorthair

Because of their kind nature, American shorthairs are seen as an excellent companion for families with kids. Their shorthaired coats come in a variety of hues, such as white, silver, black, cream, blue, brown, and red; they also have a variety of patterns, such as tabby, calico, tortoiseshell, bi’color, and solid.
These cats are lively and playful, but they are also self-sufficient and don’t require constant care from their families due to their ancestry as mousers. They will occasionally play on their own or joyfully gaze out the window. American shorthairs are kind, loving, playful, laid-back, and inquisitive. Their lifespan is 15 to 20 years.
Bengal

Kids can have a fantastic time playing with Bengals because they are very energetic and lively cats. Living with a busy family with children can be incredibly stimulating because Bengals are also highly gregarious and inquisitive.
Spotted or marbled brown tabby, seal sepsia tabby, seal mink tavvy, seal lynx point, black silver tabby, and other combinations make up their short or long hair coats. They live for 15 years.
Even though this is another of the best cat breeds for children, keep in mind that some Bengals dislike being carried and cannot tolerate physical treatment. As a result, children must be taught how to play safely and with respect.
Birman

The medium-sized Birman cat has long, silky hair and a robust build. The body of this color-pointed breed is light in color, while the face, ears, legs, and tail have darker “points” of color. All Birman also have four white paws and blue eyes. Their lifespan is between 12 and 16 years.
The Birman cat is a laid-back breed that blends in nicely with practically any home or family. They are sweet and loving. These cats are recognized for being patient and tolerant with children who play with them respectfully and carefully, and they are not too delicate for kids to handle.
Burmese

The Burmese cat is a robust, energetic, medium-sized feline. They love to play and, even as adults, behave a lot like kittens. Kids can give the Burmese as much playtime as they could possibly want, which will make this breed very happy indeed.
They have short hair that might be blue, platinum, champagne, sable, or any combinations of these. They live for 18 years.
The Burmese are an excellent choice for families with children since they are not bashful and like a busy home. They have strong bonds with their human family and would rather not be left alone for extended periods of time.
Devon Rex

Due to their small size, Devon Rexes may be more suited for older children, but they are also incredibly gregarious, playful, and social, making them a wonderful option for families with young children.
They can be any color or design with short coats. They live for 9 to 15 years.
For children who enjoy playing and engaging with their feline companions, this laid-back and entertaining breed is a perfect fit. The peculiar appearance of the Devon Rex is likely to appeal to children as well.

One of the greatest cat breeds for children. Maine coons are intelligent, amiable, and gentle giants. For children who are kind to them, these stable, easygoing cats make excellent playmates.
Their hair is heavy and shaggy, solid, tabby, bi-color, parti-color, shaded or smoke, and shaded/smoke and white. Their lifespan is 12 to 15 years.
They get along well with other family pets, including dogs that are cat-friendly and other cats. Kids enjoy teaching them a variety of tasks using positive training techniques and offering snacks because they are very trainable.
Persian

The most well-liked purebred cat breed in the US is the Persian. They have a long, thick coat and a wide, flat face that resembles a pansy. They range in size from medium to large. Their lifespan is 15 to 20 years.
Because of their calmness and sweetness, this breed makes excellent playmates for well-mannered children, who treat them with kindness. Persians offer a blend of delicate affection and easy independence; they are neither needy nor aloof.
