A sharp-dressed Fox Terrier

Strike a pose, Pippin.

The day I decided to get a puppy a calculated all the expected expenses - vet, food, puppy pads, pet insurance, and training. What I didn't realize was the hidden expense lurking on Facebook.

Pippin came into my life in August 2020, a cute bundle of black and white energy. I had been hunting high and low for a little companion as I live alone. I made numerous applications to adopt and joined many of their Facebook groups to keep up to date with new adoptees. Unfortunately, I was always unsuccessful and the cost of a new puppy was way out of my budget. I was on the brink of giving up when my Mum was able to locate a Smooth Fox Terrier breeder who had two pups available that were within my budget. Within a week I was at the airport picking up the sweetest 3-month-old Smooth Fox Terrier.

It was love at first sight.

Pippin and I bonded immediately, and I was posting my new furbaby all over social media. But it was not too long before it all began...I would be scrolling through my Facebook account, and pet product advertising targeting dog owners began filling my feed. At first, I wasn't too tempted, they were pretty much things I already had or it was for training that Pippin wasn't ready for. as he hadn't had his final injections. Until one evening an advertisement for the cutest personalized dog tags popped on my screen. I clicked the "shop now" link and scrolled through personalized dog tags, bandanas, dog shirts, and more. As I looked at my little black and white bundle of love and joy, how could I not spoil him? Pippin would be so adorable, so delicious...so "Pip-a-licious" in a little shirt of his own. The purchase was also finalized with a new ID tag and personalized bandana.

Next, my feed began to fill with ads for companies selling designer harnesses and collars with matching bowties. The Smooth Fox Terrier is known as "the gentleman of the terrier breeds", and what does every little gentleman need...bowties. Pippin rocks this look, he is a dog with class and style. One of my favorite products is Pippin's red vest harness, which he had to wear for a professional photo shoot. The funny thing is that the photographer was advertising on Facebook offering free pet photography sitting in return for testimonials.

Growing up our family had dogs, they were loved and were part of the family. We never color-coordinated their walking gear and I never considered spending money on outfits for them. This new addiction is all because of Facebook advertising. Pippin now has his own draw for his outfits, harnesses, and collars.

He has themed walking gear for Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas. I am on the mailing list of six different online dog boutiques. I have even found a few online boutiques that you can buy matching onesies for you and your beloved furbaby. Pippin is my four-legged little soul mate and we do everything together, but wearing matching outfits is a little too much for me. Plus I really can’t rock the onesie-look as good as he does.

The day I brought Pippin home I knew life would change. He is my little buddy and brightens every day. I am so grateful that we are together. I just never expected that I would be influenced by Facebook Ads to have a well-dressed Smooth Fox Terrier, with his own clothing draw.
