If you have already done the process of raising a dog before then you know that it is not ideal to leave your puppy on your home while you go at work especially with all of your important belongings in there. This is why it is very important to go through the process of crate puppy training. Some dog owners might see a crate as something intimidating but it is actually something that you might want to consider because it helps you a lot. And this can be something that you may view as hard but once you learn more about it, you will see that it is actually something you can do. To give you an idea about it, here are the guide and steps that you should follow in order to train your puppy.

Make your puppy love its crate

The first step that you need to take in this case would be to set everything up to give you success. You need to make sure that your puppy would not view its crate as a prison. It should be like his bed that you are going to be able to reinforce is going to be good for your dog. You need to convince it so that it falls in love with its crate. You can do a lot of things in order to do that. You can induce treats as well as positive reinforcement in order to make your puppy love its crate. You can try to scatter up some of its favorite treat outside of the crate so that it can try to explore the crate on its own.

Feed your puppy inside

There is probably nothing more appealing to a puppy than food and treats. This is why it is very easy to lure inside the crate with it. You want to make sure that the crate would be the perfect size for your puppy so that it is able to be as comfortable as it can be in there. You put in a portion of their meal in their feeding bowl and then you praise them when they eat it. You can give them a few more until they feel more and more comfortable to eating inside.

Name your crate

This might seem to be quite over the top but this can be quite beneficial for your dog especially when it comes to helping them understand verbal commands in the process. It is a matter of associating a word with the crate that your dog would instantly recognize later on. It will really be a lot of help in the process so you might want to consider it.

Teach dog cues

You might also want to consider using specific dog cues in order to help your puppy recognize the crate and the name that you have given it. It is something that you are introducing to your puppy so every progress no matter how small would definitely deserve a praise or a trait so you might want to keep that in mind and make the most out of that too.

Prepare your pup for when you leave

At one point, you will have to go to work and this is where you teach your puppy how to deal when you are not around. You need to make sure that your puppy would stay inside when you are not around and again, this might need some more treats in the process. You should make sure that your puppy is going to behave the way that you want it to be. It is not going to be easy at first but eventually things will get better for sure.
