My Dad Sent Me a Message… 2 Years After He Passed Away
I thought I had already said goodbye… until my phone lit up

It was a normal day.
Nothing special.
Nothing different.
I was sitting on my bed, scrolling through my phone, trying to ignore the quiet that had become a permanent part of my life.
Then my phone buzzed.
One notification.
A message.
From Dad.
I froze.
My heart skipped so hard it felt like it hurt.
“No…” I whispered.
That wasn’t possible.
My dad had passed away two years ago.
I had been there.
I had held his hand in the hospital.
I had watched the machines go silent.
I knew he was gone.
And yet—
there it was.
“Hey… I think it’s time you read this.”
My hands started shaking.
This had to be a glitch.
A hacked account.
A mistake.
I opened the message.
There was a link.
That’s it.
No explanation.
No context.
Just a link.
I stared at it for a long time.
Every part of me was screaming not to press it.
But something deeper—
something emotional, something desperate—
wouldn’t let me ignore it.
I tapped it.
It opened a video.
The screen stayed black for a second.
Then—
it loaded.
And there he was.
My dad.
Sitting in his favorite chair.
Looking straight at the camera.
Alive.
My breath caught in my throat.
“Hey,” he said.
His voice was exactly the same.
Warm. Calm.
Familiar.
“If you’re watching this… then I guess I’m not there anymore.”
Tears filled my eyes instantly.
“I didn’t want to leave you without saying this properly,” he continued.
“So I asked someone to send this to you… later.”
My chest tightened.
“I know you,” he said softly.
“You act strong. You pretend you’re okay… even when you’re not.”
I let out a broken laugh.
Because he was right.
“I need you to hear this,” he said.
“Because I didn’t say it enough when I had the chance.”
The room felt smaller.
“You don’t have to carry everything alone.”
Tears started falling freely now.
“It’s okay to feel lost sometimes.”
I nodded slowly.
Even though he couldn’t see me.
“And it’s okay to move forward… without feeling guilty.”
That hit harder than anything else.
Because that’s exactly what I had been feeling.
Guilt.
For laughing again.
For living again.
For not thinking about him every second.
“I’ll always be proud of you,” he said.
“No matter what you do… or how far you go.”
My vision blurred.
“I just need you to promise me something.”
I leaned closer.
“Don’t stop living… just because I had to.”
Silence.
The video ended.
I sat there, staring at the screen.
Crying quietly.
It felt like I had just spoken to him again.
Like he had reached through time just to find me.
My phone buzzed again.
Another message.
From the same number.
“Did you watch it?”
I frowned.
That wasn’t part of the video.
I typed slowly.
“Who is this?”
The reply came instantly.
“You already know.”
My heart started racing again.
“No…” I whispered.
“This isn’t funny.”
Typing…
Then:
“I told you… I’m always here.”
My blood ran cold.
That wasn’t in the video.
That wasn’t scheduled.
That was now.
I stared at the screen.
Frozen.
Then—
another message appeared.
“Turn around.”
My breath stopped.
Slowly…
very slowly…
I turned.
The room was empty.
But the door—
The door was slightly open.
And I knew one thing for sure.
I had closed it.
