Nina sat at her window, watching the rain fall outside. She had always loved the sound of the rain, the way it tapped against the glass and the roof. But today, it only made her feel more alone.

It had been a year since her husband had passed away, and she still missed him every day. They had been married for thirty-three years, and it felt like a lifetime ago. Sometimes, it felt like he was still there with her, his presence lingering in the corners of the room. Other times, it felt like he had never existed at all.

She got up from her chair and went to the kitchen, making herself a cup of tea. As she sipped it, she thought about the day that he had died. It had been sudden, unexpected. One moment, he had been there, and the next, he was gone.

She had felt like her world had ended that day, like she would never be able to move on. But slowly, she had started to come to terms with it. She had learned to live without him, to find joy in the small things.

But there was still a part of her that yearned for him, that missed him with a depth that she couldn't put into words. She had loved him so fiercely, and she had lost him so suddenly.

As she sat there, lost in her thoughts, she heard a knock at the door. She hesitated for a moment, wondering who it could be. She didn't get many visitors these days, and she wasn't sure if she was ready for company.

But then she got up and went to answer it. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a young man standing there, his dark hair slicked back from his face.

"Can I help you?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

"I'm sorry to bother you," he said. "My car broke down, and I don't have any cell service out here. Can I use your phone?"

Nina hesitated for a moment, but then she stepped aside and let him in. She showed him to the phone in the hallway, and he made his call. As he talked, she couldn't help but notice how young he looked, how full of life.

When he finished, he turned to her and smiled. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate it."

"It's no problem," she said, returning his smile.

They stood there for a moment, and Nina felt a strange sense of connection with this stranger. It was like they had known each other for years, even though they had just met.

"Can I get you something to drink?" she asked, trying to break the silence.

"Sure," he said. "That would be great."

She went to the kitchen and made him a cup of coffee. As she stirred it, she thought about how strange it was, to be making coffee for someone that she barely knew.

But as they sat together at the kitchen table, sipping their drinks, she felt like she had known him forever. They talked about everything and nothing, and she found herself opening up to him in a way that she hadn't with anyone else.

It wasn't until he got up to leave that she realized how much time had passed. "Thank you for keeping me company," she said, as he gathered his things.

"Thank you for the coffee," he said, smiling at her. "And for being so kind."

As he walked out the door, she felt a strange sense of loss. It was like a piece of her heart had gone with him, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she had missed out on something.

Over the next few days, she couldn't stop thinking about him. She didn't even know
