Finding the Right Wedding Gown for You

There is one for everyone

Now I have been watching this show called Say Yes to the Dress and I have to say that I have become addicted, and not just to the show, but to the dresses as well. I have been looking at gowns now for the past couple of weeks and even though I am married now. I am going to wait until I am able to renew my vows and then I am going to find the perfect wedding gown for me on that special day and I am going to go to Kleinfeld to find the dress of my dreams.

Now I know that everyone has sort of a preference on the type of dress that they would like to wear on their wedding day and I am writing this to let others know about different types of styles and silhouettes that maybe for some. Fundamentally, there are six different types of wedding style gowns. This might help them decide on the type of dress that they would really want.

1). Ballgown Style

So the first style, which is my type of style, is the ball gown style. There are so many people who love to have the ball gown style because it makes them feel like a princess, and they want to be a princess walking down the aisle on their wedding. I know that I certainly do. The style has a fitted bodice and a dramatic full skirt. But the ball gown may not be for everyone. Having a ball gown means that there is a lot of fabric involved, and sometimes it can be hard to move in a ball gown. Some women might not want to be able to walk around in a ball gown when they are constantly moving around and dancing and whatever stuff. But ball gowns are beautiful and are for the women who are willing to dress up like a princess.

2). Mermaid Style

Next up is the mermaid style. It is a silhouette that contours to the body from the chest to the knee or sometimes lower then flares out to the hem. The mermaid style is a very sexy look that highlights all the curves. So you must be confident and comfortable in your skin to want to wear a silhouette like this. So if you are considering it, make sure you are comfortable. You may have a flawless figure, but if you don’t feel confident, it is not worth choosing this style.

3). A-Line Style

Then there is the A-line style. The silhouette is fitted at the bodice and flows out to the ground with an unbroken line, which resembles the outline of an ‘A.' Because of it being a simple and classic style, the A-line is appropriate for any occasion. And since the silhouette is so versatile, simple modifications to the neckline, waistline or fabric can accentuate your best features and hide those you’re not so fond of.

4). Trumpet Style

Another is the trumpet style. It is similar to the mermaid style and is often confused with the mermaid, but it isn’t as fitted. The skirt of this silhouette flares out just below the hips, creating a semi-full skirt, like shaped of the bell of a trumpet without having extra volume and bulk.

5). Empire Line Style

There is also the empire line style. This silhouette is defined by the raised waistline, which sits just below the bust from which the rest of the dress flows down to the hem. The design of the silhouette is perfect for covering unwanted body features and since the dress flows from the bust line, it can easily leave these areas undefined. Also the silhouette suits pregnant brides since the fluidity of the dress can accommodate a growing belly.

6). Sheath Style

Lastly, there is the sheath style. The silhouette fits very closely to the contours of the body from head-to-toe. The elongating nature of the style will help petite brides appear taller. But the silhouette does not allow much room for hiding problem areas. It can conceal minor flaws if you opt for a constructed style that will stay in place, but the slip style will be unforgiving.

There are great styles for women to choose from when they are ready to go dress shopping or their big wedding day. They just need to figure out what it is that they want for the special day and their minds can always change. From watching the Say Yes to the Dress show, I have noticed that there are times where a bride has one style in mind. But then they try on the style and then right there they decide that it is actually not the style that they want. So they will try on something different and end up liking that one better. So, it all depends on what you really want and maybe doing research can help make that decision when it comes to which silhouette that you want to wear for your wedding day. And even color as well, not every woman likes to basic white dress and is willing to try a different color for their wedding day.

But sometimes it just takes going to the bridal shops and trying on wedding gowns and finding the one that you really want. And it is ok if you don’t find your dress the first time you go dress shopping. When you don’t find it the first time just helps you learn what you really want and know what to look for the next time you go shopping for a wedding gown. So ladies, congrats on any engaged woman out there and I hope that you find the right wedding gown that best fits you.
