Today, most businesses spend more time on video conferencing tools like zoom than face-to-face meetings. For a successful zoom meeting, you need to improve your audio quality to ensure that everyone hears you. Check out the following tips to guide you through.

Receive the Call From a Quiet Location

You should be very mindful of your environment when holding zoom meetings. It's, therefore, a good idea that you choose a quieter location to avoid distractions. This could be your home office or any other small room filled with furniture and carpeting to prevent echoes.

Avoid holding the meeting from your car while driving. The loud noises from other vehicles can affect the audio clarity. While at home, move away from the washing machine, air conditioner, or any other equipment that produces noise. If you wish to conduct the meeting outdoor, ensure that the wind isn't that strong to be captured by your microphone.

Use Headphones

You can improve your zoom audio significantly by using business headsets. They will make your voice clearer and eliminate outside noises. To use headphones on your zoom meeting, click test speaker and microphone once you join the call. Next, select your headset, and you should hear the test tone through your headset, then click yes.

Use a High-quality Microphone

Sometimes, your computer's inbuilt mic may not pick up your voice well, and it can even capture noises from the room or computer vibrations. It's, therefore, a good idea that you connect an external microphone. This is particularly important for people who have regular zoom meetings.

The tool will also isolate your sound from other background noises, which can interfere with your audio. You still need to test and optimize it to ensure that it sounds good on a call. At the zoom app, click the setting icon, then audio, select the mic, and adjust the volume accordingly.

A high-quality microphone will make you sound better when positioned correctly. Don't speak too close to the microphone since it will make you sound extremely loud. Again, if you sit too far, your voice may be too low.

Maintain a Strong Internet Connectivity

You need a strong Wi-Fi connection for your zoom call. With a poor internet connection, you might suffer speech delay, and your voice will appear distorted. Therefore, you should move closer to a router and close all other running applications on your device before the call. Ask all other household members to refrain from using the internet while you are on zoom meetings. Disconnect your smart TV, other phones, and tablets to create more bandwidth for the call.

Mute Your Mic to Avoid Background Noises

Suppose you happen to receive the call while in a noisy place, mute yourself when you aren't talking. You can still listen to other participants in the muted state, but they can't hear you. Proceed to settings and on the audio tab, click 'always mute the microphone when joining the meeting.'

Should you need to speak, press and hold the space key to unmute yourself temporarily. If you are hosting the zoom meeting and other participants' backgrounds seem noisy, you can request them to mute or offer to do it on their behalf. To mute other people, tap participants in the navigation bar, click on the person's name, and tap mute audio.

Stamp Out Echo

Echoes make it difficult for your colleagues to understand your message. You can avoid them by joining the meeting through a single audio source. Note that zoom gives you an option to either connect your audio via your phone or computer. If you use both of them, it results in unwanted echo.

It also happens if you are too close to another participant in the same zoom call. Therefore, when you attend a zoom meeting in a group, ensure that only one person provides audio for the meeting. For those using external speakers, ensure that your microphone isn't picking up sounds from the speakers to avoid echoes.

Conclusion

Although zoom is a valuable video conferencing tool that helps team members stay connected poor audio quality during a meeting can be very troublesome. Hopefully, the above tactics will help you get the best audio out of your zoom meetings.
