As a writer, you may have come across the writer’s block. But what is it really? Is it just a myth like others are addressing it to be? Or is this a real phenomena in which you can find a way to get over it?

It's when it seems that your brain seems not to cooperate when you have to write something. Your brain is not into the creative mood which is a bad thing if you are making a living as a writer.

According to some studies, it is a common struggle for writers. It's when you seem to lose your ability to write an original piece. Therefore it does exist and there is such a thing as a writer’s block.

Now that it has been established, you will need to find a way to deal with it. It’s not as easy as it seems but there are some hacks that you can do in order to get back your creative juice from overflowing once again.

How to Deal With Writer’s Block

1. Change Your Surroundings

You can go for a walk or just go to another part of where you are. This way, you can see other surroundings than your room or home office. The change of your environment can refresh your eyes and your mind in order to function better again.

2. Read

It’s hard to create ideas if you are running out of creative juice. By reading, you can refill it so you can find some writing inspiration. You can just enjoy a novel or an article so that you will have another writer to tell you things than usual. It’s hard to always be the source of knowledge and inspiration. Get your own dose every now and then.

3. Play a Game

You don’t have to go outdoors to play. Just use your smartphone or other gadgets. Playing a game can relax your mind so that you can get your writing mojo back afterwards. I usually play HomeScapes from my Android phone whenever I feel uninspired. After a few minutes of playing, I will feel a little bit better and start writing again.

4. Eat your Comfort Food

Sometimes you just need to have a nice meal. Cook or ask your Mom to cook your comfort food. You will be able to feel good after your favorite meal. Then you can get back your creativity. Sometimes, you just need to treat yourself a little in order to keep your brain working well again. Your emotions and feelings can affect your writing mood a lot so better eat up before you write.

5. Watch a Movie or a Video

You may need to treat yourself with your favorite movie or watch a new one. This way, you can get inspired to also create your own and bring back your creativity. You can even just watch a short YouTube video. Just watch a funny clip or even a scary video like I usually do. I like scaring myself a bit when it seems that I can’t write anything. It can wake up your brain and you will be ready to work on your novel again.

Myth or Reality

Writer’s block is very real. Most writers go through this phase. Feeling uninspired or even lacking creativity is a real thing. It exists but when it’s gone, you will think as if you were just imagining things.

However, procrastination can also play a big role when it comes to working. What’s funny about being a writer is you will find a lot of excuses just to avoid writing. It’s like a love-hate relationship. You love writing so much but you keep on avoiding it especially if it’s a request from your client or editor.

Final Thoughts

If you want to continuously be creative, relax and live a little. There’s nothing wrong with slowing down. Just don’t stop writing. You also need to live your real life and don't get stuck with your story. It will not feel like a reality if you always live in your fantasy. A novel is just a story but it should be inspired with real life. So make sure you live your life well and don't overwork yourself.

The moment you do, the more the writer’s block will affect you. Just write something until you get back your creativity. Write a journal. It will help you to destress and write your struggles. That’s one way of talking to yourself. Then you can formulate your own solution and kick yourself why you haven't thought of that solution before.

Just enjoy being a writer and stop taking it too seriously. Sure, it’s your passion and maybe your job as well. But not being able to enjoy every moment of it will leave you stressed out and uninspired. Creativity needs inspiration. Just go out there and do whatever it takes to take your writing mojo back!
