Servicing Your Mobility Scooter

We recommend that you have your mobility scooter serviced once every 12 months. A service will include checking the scooters brakes, tyres and ensuring the wiring under the scooter is intact.

If you have taken our Mobility scooter insurance or warranty, this may be affected if you do not keep up to date with services, as per your manufacturers or sellers instructions.

The spare parts needed for your mobility scooter could be tires, tubes, batteries or smaller parts such as mirrors or armrests. Check your tyres regularly for any signs of wear and tear, when tyres are worn down or have a puncture, they should be replaced. Mobility Scooter Storage

Ensuring your mobility scooter is kept in the correct environment will increase its longevity. The best place to store your mobility scooter either overnight or for long periods of time is in a dry secure place. If you are planning on storing your mobility scooter outside you may need to look at purchasing a mobility scooter cover. Keeping your scooter dry will help prevent corrosion.

Maintaining Your Batteries

The batteries of your mobility scooter are the power source and need to be taken care of. Here is how you can maintain your batteries to make them last longer.

How Long Can A Mobility Scooter Battery Last?

Depending on how often you use your scooter, it’s batteries can last anywhere from 12 months to 3 years. If you use your scooter every day and maintain the batteries well then the batteries should last between 12-18 months. If you only use it occasionally, maybe 2 or three times a week then the batteries can last up to three years.

How Often Should You Charge Your Batteries?

As every mobility scooter, battery and usage is different there are no set rules, here are some general guidelines you can follow to keep your scooter running smoothly.

If you have a smaller class 2 scooter or use your scooter daily, it may be a good idea to charge it after every use so you will have enough charge for future journeys.

If you are only using your scooter once or twice a week then a single charge of around 12-14 hours should be enough.

Letting your batteries drain completely is something you should be cautious of. By keeping your batteries topped up, the battery will live longer.

Can You Overcharge A Mobility Scooter?

There is no such thing as overcharging your scooter so don’t be afraid to leave it on charge over night. The majority of batteries are now fitted with a cut of point, providing you with the peace of mind that your charger will switch off when it is fully charged.

What Charger Do You Need?

It is important that you use the correct charger for your scooter. You need to make sure you get the right charger for the size of your power unit, if this is not the correct size it is likely your scooter won’t charge at all.

Your Scooter In The Winter

The cold weather can affect your battery so it’s best to keep in mind that your scooter may do less mileage and go a little slower in the winter. Power units can sometimes be damaged if they are simply left, so even if you are not planning on going out on your scooter, it is still a good idea to plug it in once a week.
