personal safety device for college students

Getting into college is not all about stepping into the new phase of your career. It is also about friends you make, fun you have and memories you create together. You learn to live and think differently. You love going to your college because of the positive and hopeful atmosphere that you get there. There is a well known saying “College days fill maximum colors in life’s journey”. It also teaches you a few lessons that you remember for whole life. But this world is not so colorful and charming for all. College students often fall victim to a large number of crimes. Students get easily trapped into the drug and alcohol addictions as school and college students are easy victims of mafias. Those who refuse to get involved in all this may face some difficulties. So, students need to protect themselves.

Personal safety is extremely important for college students. They have to be vigilant and always carry personal safety devices with them. Parents should also insist their teenagers to carry personal safety devices with them. There are so many such safety devices available that they can carry during an emergency. But before getting such devices at college, it is important that students should check the rules of their college or university to make sure that the safety device they are carrying with them is not against the college/university rules. Before you buy anything for your kid or they buy something for their personal safety, it is necessary that you both should perform research on all the potential safety devices available that are effective at stopping attacks.

Given below is the list of some such devices:

Pepper Spray: Pepper spray or oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray contains capsicum. This chemical irritates the eyes and causes temporary blindness, pain, tears and intense burning sensation. It is highly effective if used correctly. You need to be a few feet away from the attacker. Students must know how to use the spray and when to use because there are some state laws. So, if you are a student and you keep pepper spray for your personal protection, you must know these laws.

Tear Gas: One can also use tear gas for personal protection. The gasses that make up tear gas work similarly to pepper spray. Tear gas is available in the canister. Just push the spray button and gas will be release and make attacker unconscious for sometimes, giving you an opportunity to escape.

Strobe or Metal Maglite: Buying metal Maglite is one such way through which you can protect yourself. This device serves two purposes: you can use it as a protection tool and also use as a light as it is a type of flashlight. The flashlight will make the intruder blind and help students to defend themselves.

Silent Beacon Panic Button: Panic button is a GPS-based device that gives you the option to inform your parents and friends about your location. It also gives you a choice to send an alert message, email and call to your loved ones during any kind of emergency. No matter, where you are and what you are doing, a single press will inform your parents that you need their help. This device is so small that you can carry it with your vehicle keys, wear like a pendant or even bracelet. When you are using this device, you need to install a safety app to your device and add the people whom you wish to contact during an emergency. During some serious issues, you can also call 911.

Among different available options, I personally believe that safety beacon is a safe and silent means that college students can choose to keep themselves protected. Moreover, your school or college authorities will not prevent you from carrying this device.
