Why Choose Natural Plywood Furniture for Home?

With so many furniture materials on the market now, it can be tough to know what matters, what doesn't, and what makes the most sense for you. Each alternative, from plywood to particle board to MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), has advantages and disadvantages. We've compiled a list of reasons why good quality plywood is a long-term investment, particularly when it comes to children's furniture.

Strength

Plywood, MDF, and particleboard are all engineered woods, but plywood is by far the best of the three. This is due to the various methods used when engineering the forests. Plywood is a "sandwich" of thinly cut sturdy wood layers. These thirteen thin layers are fused together to form a wall, with the orientation of the wood grain alternated such that it is stable in both directions. This means that it is not only more resistant to the rigours of children's furniture use than MDF or particleboard, but it is much more adaptable in terms of configuration and architecture. Plywood is also used in home building, making it ideal for more intricate furniture designs.

MDF and particle board, on the other side, are constructed from “waste” wood (scraps, sawdust, and so on) that is then kept together with resin and sealed. MDF and particle board both absorb moisture when poorly sealed, quickly warping the wood.

Quality & Durability

Wood is a naturally long-lasting material. Green plywood is much more resistant to warping and cracking than solid wood, which can warp and crack due to seasonal moisture changes.

Aesthetic

Simply put, plywood furniture has a more finished and upscale appearance than MDF, particleboard, and plastic parts. Plywood's compressed layers provide mechanically solid, visually pleasing edges that can be rounded for a softer look and feel. The upscale appearance and feel, as well as the aesthetic durability and long-lasting consistency, resulting in furniture that will last for years.

No edges can be revealed by using MDF or particleboard, and none has a natural wood pattern. Since both absorb moisture so readily, neither can be stained; to achieve the wood grain look, veneers must be used.

Plywood furniture that has been scuffed or scratched in any way over the course of its existence can be sanded and replaced. With MDF or particle board, this is not an option. It cannot be restored after it has been destroyed and must be replaced.

Health and Wellness Concerns

When it comes to children's furniture, natural materials are particularly significant. Any synthetic products are processed with harsh chemicals, which can expose children to contaminants unnecessarily, raising potential long-term safety concerns. We choose formaldehyde-free plywood that is rolled with a UV-cured, VOC-free acrylic-based coating and polished with water-based, non-toxic finishes. Our items are also stain-free: we use birch for light wood, oak for medium wood, and walnut for dark wood. MDF may contain these harmful toxins, often used in the bonding process when engineering the wood.

Sustainability

In this day and age of quick furniture, it is critical to choose furniture that is environmentally friendly. Fast furniture, which is frequently made of cardboard, MDF, and particle board, is intended to be inexpensive and easily replaced. Since this style of furniture does not last more than a few years, it leads to large volumes of waste that are frequently not discarded properly. With plywood, you can be assured that your furniture can last a lifetime if properly cared for. Greenply plywood is also made with planted trees that are replaced after they’re harvested. After a long lifecycle, plywood can be recycled with no contamination to the planet. When you choose high-quality materials, furniture lasts longer, costing you less money and hassle in the long-run.
