Maybe this problem sounds familiar to you: You’ve got an awesome space, money to spend, but you have no idea how to put a room our a look together for your home whatsoever.

Don’t worry - you’re not the only person out there with this issue.

In fact, most people have no idea what they are doing when it comes to home decor.

Sure, you could spend a bunch of money and hire an expert.

Yet there is a better - and much cheaper - way out there for you. I’ve done my own research and come up with some great sources for home decor ideas and places to find home decor tips. Naturally, since there are as many styles and tastes out there as there are people, I am going with some “general” sources in a broad sense.

So, if you don’t know where to go to find your home decor ideas or you need home decor tips, check out these sources:

The Internet

If you’re having a hard time coming up with ideas, go to the Internet and do a general search based on some themes you like. For example, enter in the terms that describe what you want your room or decor to look like and then click for the results. You’ll want to check out the image results, too, to see what pops up there. Frequently, we find our best ideas by going through the images that come up with our search. This also will help you more efficiently wade through the tons of websites, blogs, and stores out there offering home decor ideas and home decor tips.

Instagram

Another great place to go find images for things to give you inspiration is Instagram. Like searching on the Internet, Instagram has a very robust tagging feature for its photos. What we like about this option is that you can follow accounts that post things to your tastes and gain continual inspiration using that method. The only downside here is that you often have to “interpret” what you see in the photo since it is rare to have the actual products and makers listed in the caption. This could change in the future as Instagram moves towards connecting its users with more eCommerce functions.

Pinterest

The mood board of the Internet, we like Pinterest for home decor tips and home decor ideas because users typically group their content together in themed “boards” that combine everything from blog posts to social media to products from the stores themselves. As with Instagram, the key here is to find someone that you want to emulate or follow and then branch off from there to find other inspirations as necessary.

Home Furnishings Websites

This might seem a little old school but it still works. And it has the added convenience of giving you the option to purchase the items you need to get the look you want. Home furnishings websites often provide different photographs and even video of the products they have on sale. Beyond that, you can read other customer reviews and see what their experience was like with the product in question. Hard to put together? Bad quality materials? Arrived without key parts to put it together? You want to know these things before you set down the big bucks on your home decor and there’s nowhere better than the source itself.

Blogs and Vlogs

Blogs and vlogs can give you a more intimate insight into someone’s thought process and why they did what they chose to do when it comes to decorating their home. Like Instagram and Pinterest, this provides you with a curated space in which to view works in progress or finished homes but it doesn’t really connect you with the materials you might need to pull it off.
