What to consider before getting an Appliance Repair

You'll always need to hire a repair service when an appliance becomes defective.

Living in the modern era is, to a great extent, a blessing. There are dozens of appliances, and others that are invented each day, making our lives so much simpler. Taking this into account, it can be really frustrating when any one of these gadgets malfunctions.

Whenever an appliance becomes defective, you’ll need to hire a repair service technician immediately. But before you make that call to a professional technician, here are a couple of things you should consider.

Do a Quick Inspection

Start by checking the most obvious things. It could be that the refrigerator is not fully plugged into the outlet. Or, perhaps connections in the electrical outlet itself are loose. If you find the appliance well-plugged and yet it’s still not powering up, test it by connecting it to a different outlet.

It’s also a good idea to inspect the circuit breakers in your home. At times after a storm or other incidence, the circuit breaker might blow or trip causing the outlets to stop working. That said, be extra careful when checking the breaker. Wear protective gear and turn off the main power before checking the tripped breaker.

Check the Appliance’s Build

Another way to discern whether an appliance can be easily fixed is to inspect its build. For appliances that are held together using screws, bolts, pins or fasteners are relatively easier to inspect and fix.

However, if you have equipment that’s held together using welds, rivets or other complex components, it’s better to leave the inspection to a pro. Attempting to check or fix such appliances on your own can cause more harm than good.

Read the Manual

Most of us rush to contact repair technicians before reading the manual. This should not be the case. Oftentimes, manufacturers provide detailed instructions on how to perform simple appliance repair.

Even if the manual doesn’t help you fix your appliance, it will probably shed some light on what the problem could be. You can then provide a detailed diagnosis to your technician; hence, make their work easier.

Know the 50% Rule

Another thing you should keep in mind is the 50% rule. Put simply; if an appliance has gone through 50% of its expected lifespan, it’s probably safer to replace than to repair it. Compare the cost of repairing the appliance to its replacement cost, and determine the cheaper option. In the case of a repair, remember to factor in the cost of purchasing additional parts.

Prepare Adequately

If you determine that an appliance repair is the best option, there are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare.

Start by clearing your schedule. It’s important that you’re available during the repair service. Next, declutter the area around the appliance. The repair technician shouldn’t have to spend half an hour moving furniture and other items just to access the appliance.

Conclusion

Before performing any appliance repair, there are a few things you should take into consideration. Start by doing a quick inspection. Is the appliance plugged into the outlet? Is the circuit breaker working? How is the appliance designed and held together?

Next, read the manual to identify what the specific problem is. If you have to hire a repair technician, prepare adequately by clearing your schedule and decluttering your space.

A good appliance repair service https://www.theproteamservices.com/ will use specialized tools and equipment to diagnose the problem and recommend repairs. The best services will also be honest about what they can do and what they can't. For example, a company may offer a warranty on the repair, but they may not be able to provide a free estimate.
