The glazed surface has a very low slip resistance and becomes slippery when wet whereas unglazed ceramic tiles are used for flooring because of its anti-slip properties. Ceramic tiles are durable and have low maintenance requirements that make them cost-effective. Following are some the advantages and disadvantages of ceramic tiles.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Ceramic Tiles

Advantages

• Very durable: Ceramic tiles are very strong and abrasion-resistant that makes them highly durable. These can easily last up to 20 years and even longer, if maintained properly. If any tile cracks, then you can replace the same easily.

• Water-resistant:Ceramic tile is water-resistant and it has a protective layer that makes it stain resistant too. It can withstand high humid conditions and is less prone to germs and molds. So, ceramic tiles are best suitable for bathrooms and kitchens.

• Low Maintenance:One of the main reasons for choosing ceramic tile flooring is that it is easy to clean. If there is any stain or dirt, you can just wipe it with a clean cloth or clean it with a vacuum brush without damaging the tile.

• Environment-friendly: Ceramic tiles are made of clay and other natural resources which makes them environment-friendly. These tiles have insulating properties that can make the rooms cooler in summer and warmer in winter, thus reducing the energy costs.

Disadvantages

Despite so many advantages, ceramic tiles have a few disadvantages also which are as follows:

• Tile joint:Even though tiles are water resistant, the grout between the tiles is not resistant to moisture which can lead to molds. So, make sure to choose the best sealant to restrict moisture. Using a good sealant helps to improve the life of the ceramic tile.

• Difficult to install:Ceramic titles are heavy and harder and need to be handled with care. So, to install ceramic tiles you need experienced installers. This also means that ceramic tiles may not be the best option for upper story installations with inadequate floor structure.

• Very hard:Ceramic tiles are durable and easy to maintain. But the surface of the tile is so hard that standing on the floor for extended periods of time can be unpleasant. However, this can be mitigated by placing soft rugs on the floor.

Even though there are some disadvantages for ceramic tiles, these can be minimized if you hire a reliable tile distributor who has experienced workers to install the tiles well. Ceramic tiles are resistant to water damage, fire damage, chemical spillage, and other stain risks. If you are planning to install ceramic flooring tile for your commercial space, then make sure to rely on the services of a professional ceramic tile distributor who can recommend the best product that suits your needs.
