Some customers hired moving companies to save time and money. Indeed, if you use professional office movers, they can advise you on running your move, and it will be quicker with no hassle.

Some people do it themselves by hiring a truck and asking friends to help, but they will quickly find out that it is first time consuming, secondly very tiring and intense, and then at the end of the day, they realized that the price is almost the same. With all the time spent hiring the truck and all the possible damage to your goods or property, you would indeed use a professional company.

Moving to a storage unit

People moving to or from the storage unit is a common thing. Indeed, sometimes people can't find any houses and have to stay at friends or relatives, or they go and travel for a while.

If you use a storage unit, you will find below some tips to know the most critical points.

1-) Selection of your storage unit provider

Not all businesses have the same level of service, so it's essential to check the online reviews before choosing one. By seeing the customer's feedback, you will see if the service is good and the unit safe, clean, and pretty new.

Location: It's better to select one close to your future place or not too far from your pick-up place. Indeed, if you hire a moving company, they charge an hourly rate. So, if they have to drive far away, the move will take more time, and your bill will be higher.

Insurance: it's an important topic. If your stuff is in storage for one year or so and your unit is not waterproof, your items might get damaged. Check with your provider for any insurance contract and policy.

Access and opening time: Some storage units are only open during the day at standard office time. You must check if you can access your unit early morning or at night. Most of the removalists start early morning, and you might want to access your unit after work.

2-) Size of your storage unit is essential

When it comes to select your unit size, you will generally have three or four choices. And, of course, they all have different rates. If you choose the correct size ( not too big ), it will cost you less money.

This is important even if the difference is only 10$ per week. If you planned to stay six months or one year, this would make a big difference.

Sometimes they will offer units upstairs with a long walking distance. They are cheaper. But you have to know that your moving company will take more time then as they will have to walk more. Removalists prefer direct access to your storage; thus, the move will be quicker and cheaper.

Of course, if you have long-term storage ( over six months), you would instead take the one upstairs.

So before booking any units, please check the access and walking distance with the office.

3-) Packing and protection

This is the most important point. Packing and protection of your items and furniture is your responsibility. If you leave your items in your storage without protection, you will get damaged stuff due to loading, and everything will be dusty with a bad smell.

What moving company advice:

  • Provide some empty boxes to protect furniture while stacking
  • Moving blankets for your white goods and breakable
  • If you don't have any removal blanket, bed sheets, towel, or linen can help.
  • Protection of your fabrics: You will have to buy some plastic protection for your mattress, lounge, sofa, armchair. You can use bubble wrap too.
  • Boxes and Packing
  • Everything will have to be in boxes, including your TV in a specific TV box.
  • We recommend bubbling wrap fridge, white goods, or any delicate items.

Your packers and movers expert should be able to give you all those tips and answer any of your questions about your storage unit relocation.
