A home is an investment, and you want to do everything you can to keep your home in excellent condition over time. That means performing a few simple maintenance tasks that will protect your house for the duration.

Clean the Gutters

Cleaning your gutters regularly is a smart way to protect your home from a variety of issues. Your roof will suffer from damage if water and debris backs up in your gutters. Clearing them out regularly can keep you from having to replace your roof. Clogged gutters give pests an easy place to hide out and enter your home. Water that can't drain properly will also damage the outside of your home, peeling off the paint and making it easier for water to get inside. If you don't want to clean gutters yourself, make sure to hire someone who will do a thorough job and report any damage that needs to be handled.

Replace Window Screens

Window screens protect your actual windows from harm, but they endure a lot in the process. Hail damage, strong winds, and time all leave wear and tear on screens. You need to look for this damage regularly and replace window screens when they start showing signs of damage.

Window screens help keep water, bugs, and falling leaves from getting inside your home. If you don't replace them when they're damaged, they won't be able to protect your house because the tears will allow items from the outside to get inside. This also damages the paint and walls inside of your home. Replacing your window screens is much more financially responsible than trying to repair all the issues that occur when damaged screens aren't dealt with in time.

Change Air Filters

If you don't replace your air filters regularly, you will face a variety of issues. Your air conditioner will not perform as well and could end up needing repairs that cost you lots of cash. Your family will also not have the cleanest air to breathe within the home. Air filters help keep dust and allergens from floating through the air. When you don't replace them often enough, they can't filter out things you shouldn't breathe. Where you live and how much you run your air conditioner will determine how often filters should be changed. If you live in a hotter climate, look for 20x20x1 air filters that you can change every month in the summer.

Replace the Batteries in Smoke Alarms

You know that having smoke alarms in your home protects your house and the people in it. However, if the batteries in your smoke alarm don't work, they can't help. Mark in your calendar when you need to test your smoke alarms. If the batteries need to be replaced, do it the day you realize this instead of waiting. It's also wise to check carbon monoxide detectors at the same time you check your smoke alarms.

Regular Deep Cleaning

You may do the basic chores to keep your home functional on a regular basis. However, you need to deep clean your house several times a year to make sure there aren't underlying issues that could cause problems. Clean behind the fridge and check for any leaks. Make sure to clean your oven so leftover food won't catch fire. Pull furniture away from the walls to check for leaks or signs of pests. Catching these problems while you are deep cleaning means you have a better chance of handling them before your house suffers more damage.

Conclusion

Your family home can maintain its beauty and good condition for years to come if you do the proper maintenance. This will save you money and give you a wonderful place to live.
