What makes a certain paint color a true "farmhouse" paint color? Well, there isn't REALLY a specific definition. It's generally accepted that warm colors that give a feeling of "lived in" and character to the room are perfect when you are trying to create a farmhouse look.

Farmhouse and country style colors can include:

- soft gray tones

- deep earth tones of brown, red, and forest green (these can work really well if your home is more out in the country and they can compliment the outside around you)

- subtle touches of color, pastel greens and blues (these especially work well in warmer climates where you can keep bright colored decor around year round)

When it comes down to it though, any paint color that makes you feel warm and cozy, and creates an inviting space, is perfect for your farmhouse home. We've gathered some great colors and recommendations that hopefully will inspire you when you need to repaint your home!

Silver Gray from Benjamin Moore

This is one of my favorite gray colors from Benjamin Moore that works perfect in any farmhouse! It's a unique shade of gray, it can go so well with other tones of gray throughout the room, such as in a couch of kitchen cabinets!

This gray also goes well with shades of tan and darker grays.

Silver Gray also contains some subtle undertones of blue that makes it perfect for creating a cooler and soft room feel.

Wythe Blue from Benjamin Moore

We see a lot of people wanting to incorporate more colors into their farmhouse! Often we see photos of farmhouse homes where the primary colors are always white, tan, or gray. While these colors are beautiful and great for these homes, it's always nice to see some other colors in these homes too! That's why we love this Wythe Blue that we found at Benjamin Moore!

This blue is light and warm enough to keep the worn and "lived in" look that really makes a paint color a "farmhouse" paint color, and we love the balance it strikes between a gray and a true blue.

If you are creating a coastal farmhouse look, this is definitely one of the best colors you could pick! It will really help to bring out the natural colors from outside and make you feel like the beach is right in your home!

Alabaster from Sherwin Williams

Alabaster is a wonderful shade of light tan that starts to get into the beige territory that works perfect for the modern farmhouse look! What I love most about this color is how well it goes with almost any color decor or furniture you may have! Light tones like this are neutral, so they don't clash with more bold colors, instead they compliment almost anything else.

Since Alabaster and other beige-like paint colors go so well with everything else, it gives you a lot of freedom in your decor. You can pair this with a darker gray sectional and armchair, and a dark coffee table like in the picture above.

Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams

We wouldn't feel like this list was complete if we didn't include a nice and soft moss green like Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams! This color can give your room a nice natural and cool feel, perfect for areas that get a lot of natural light. I think this color would work very well especially in a bedroom as its very relaxing and that's exactly what we want in a bedroom after a long and hard day.

This color could work really well in a bathroom as well, it would create a great contrast with predominately white or light colored features, such as the bath, cabinets, and sink.

I hope that you found some great inspiration in this list of some of the hottest paint colors in 2020 to give your home or a room that peaceful farmhouse look!
