If you are looking for ways to engage your twitter follower community, here is a list of six ways to get more engagement.

1. Give Personalized Encouragement

People love to get responses to their posts and often times will return the favor looking through your posts and offering a response to something you have posted that has appealed to them. This is also a sign of respect to the other posters and shows that you are paying attention to what they are posting.

Offer words of encouragement to your followers on a daily basis. Go through the timelines of your followers and look for any major achievements or works in progress and offer some words of encouragement to keep them going. This will not only show that you care but help to motivate them and keep them coming back to you as a loyal follower.

People crave human connections and one of the best ways to do that is to motivate other people to reach their goals and potential. They will thank you greatly for your support.

2. Share Their Tweets

Everyone wants to have a feeling of being validated, so retweeting your followers will show that you recognize their content and the value of their content. Retweet your fans often, even if it is only retweeting things similar to your own interests or business.

If you have two accounts one for business and one for personal you may want to retweet certain tweets that aren’t relevant to your business on your personal account. This will still give your followers a feeling of validity.

You don’t have to retweet everything your followers tweet about. Choose things that line up with your businesses values and direction. When you retweet someone it’s a good idea to consider adding a relevant comment to the retweet when possible.

3. Include a Relevant Hashtag

Another way of creating engagement among your followers is to create a hashtag and promote it in a campaign. This will help to spark some conversation around your business brand. This can bring out conversation with both old and new followers to your business or interest.

Make sure that you decide on a goal for the hashtag campaign and how it will relate to your customers/followers. You will also want to do some research about what your audience is currently talking about in order to help come up with a hashtag that they can identify with.

4. Link to Problem Solving Content

A good way of grabbing your followers attention is by providing content that helps to solve their problems and will improve their lives, even make their lives easier. This is a great way to put your business forward into helping people with their problems and help to promote yourself as someone who is ready to help others.

A great way of discovering what might benefit and help your followers is to go through their profiles and discover the dislikes, likes and what influences them. After going through several profiles choose something that is a common issue to all and that will benefit multiple people.

5. Run a Contest

Everyone loves free giveaways. This is a great opportunity to engage with your followers and also expand notice of your brand/business. As people respond to the contest word spreads about the contest and you gain more exposure and hopefully more followers. All of the mentions will boost awareness of your business/brand.

Be sure to choose a giveaway that is going to be relevant to your followers and audience. Choose a theme that will connect with your followers and decide on how people will enter the contest. You want to make it easy for people to participate in your contest giveaway so don’t make it difficult to enter into the giveaway contest.

Be sure to promote the giveaway contest on multiple social media platforms for maximum exposure.

6. Answer Follower Calls for Help

There will be times that followers will need your help. Keep an eye out for those posts and be sure to respond to them and help them solve their problem. Make yourself the go-to for their problems where it relates to your interest, business or brand. This is a great way to provide customer service while at the same time you will strengthen your relationships with your followers.

You can give your followers assistance through direct messaging if it’s a larger issue or if it’s just a simple solution provide a tweet specifically to the follower with the solution. The direct message, however, provides a more personal experience and makes the person feel more valued that they have been contacted directly.

You can also engage in the tweet and from there move into a direct message. This shows publicly that you're helping your follower and then giving more assistance via direct message for that more personal experience.
