Should or Shouldn’t You Wash Sneakers in the Washing Machine?

Neat sneakers are good to keep for years. Such a couple sees romantic walks, crazy races, shopping of all kinds, fatigue, joy, and the creation of memories. But it is normal to get dirty, and it is impossible to disagree with that. And then, do sneakers get into the washing machine or not?

Of course, it comes in, but you have to be very careful and keep in mind some simple but vital instructions for your sneakers.

Do we wash our leather shoes in the washing machine?

You should know that leather or suede sneakers do not fit in the washing machine, as there is a very high risk of damage. However, shoes made of canvas, cotton, nylon, or denim are not a problem.

How to wash your sneakers in the washing machine

Things you need:

• a toothbrush,
• a pillowcase (or a delicate laundry bag),
• liquid laundry detergent,
• safety pins.

First, you need to remove the laces from both sneakers and, if necessary, the insoles. You can put the laces in the laundry with normal clothes, in the delicate laundry bag, next to the socks.

When you wash them, you have to tie them at the ends so that they form a loop; this will help them not get lost in the holes or corners of the washing machine. If you have dark laces, you can confidently put them in the washing machine with your sneakers.

Then use a shoe brush (be careful not to brush your leather shoes with cream) to remove excessive dirt, mud, leaves, and whatever else you may have on your sneakers.

Now you can put your sneakers in the washing machine, in a pillowcase, or in a delicates laundry bag. If you choose the pillowcase option, be sure to catch half of your mouth with 2–3 safety pins, to make sure that the water comes in direct contact with the sneakers, but that they are protected inside the pillowcase.

When you put the front of the pillow with the sneakers in the car, be sure to add 1–2 towels in the car. This will not only save you some detergent when washing in the future but make sure that your sneakers do not hit the walls of the tub aggressively so that they can be damaged.

To be sure that the sneakers will not be damaged, we can also use a sneaker washing bag. Specifically, these bags will protect your shoes, and the laces will not get lost in the washing machine tub.

At what temperature should the sneakers be washed?

If you are wondering at what temperature the sneakers are washed, it is good to know that in this case the machine must be programmed to the program for delicate laundry, at a low temperature (it is advisable to set it at 30 degrees). Do not set it for quick rotation or squeezing, as this could damage your favorite shoes.

After the car has finished its washing program, take off your sneakers and other laundry and dry them. It will take them a day or two to dry completely, so be patient.

How do you remove grass stains from your sneakers?

For white leather shoes or substitutes, it is recommended to use baking soda. We make a thick paste with a little water, rub the grass stains well with a soft brush. Then use vinegar diluted with water and dab lightly with a sponge until the shoe is white. Then wipe the shoes by using a clean cloth.

For textile footwear, we can use sanitary alcohol because it degreases vegetable oils and does not affect the material.

So, yes, your favorite sneakers have their place of cleaning in the washing machine, but only if you pay attention to a few details and rules.
