First and foremost, dealing with a pest problem is not really something to be ashamed of. The truth is that any household, clean or not, can have pests. In other words, pest infestation is inevitable and having a clean home does not always translate to a zero-pest home.

It is understandable, however, that homeowners badly wish to get rid of pests as soon as possible. Pests are undeniably annoying and disgusting. Having bed bugs, roaches, or rodents at home, for instance, is enough to make any devoted homeowner feel restless. This is primarily one big reason that pest control methods such as bed bug heat treatment, cockroach removal, and rodent control are created to lessen the homeowners’ burden and maintain a healthy and happy home for the family.

Of course, to successfully remove pests from our lives, we need to keep these important tips to our minds:

Remove the clutter.

Pests like roaches and rodents love to stay in areas that will provide them with shelter and space where they can securely breed and scavenge for food. Clutter is definitely the most attractive thing to these pests as it makes them easily navigate through your household without being easily noticed. Hence, it is best not to give these ghastly pests the satisfaction they want. Keep your home clutter-free and unattractive to pests.

Keep things organized, sanitized, and dry.

In continuation to #1, you need to clean up at all times. Although it is said that having a dirty home does not define whether your home is susceptible or not to pests, still observing good hygiene definitely helps decrease the chances of pest infestation. You can lessen the likelihood of getting ants, rodents, cockroaches, and flies by keeping your surroundings free from standing water, food debris, spills, and undisposed garbage. As long as long you regularly clean and disinfect your floors and food counters, seal your food containers well, and properly dispose of waste, you will not attract pests and insects to your home.

Manage your garbage well.

Speaking of waste disposal, you do need to throw away your trash every day and store it inside well-covered garbage cans. Never let your smelly garbage out in the open so as not to invite ants, flies, cockroaches, and rats.

Wash your clothes using hot water.

This is an effective method to kill bed bugs that could be hiding in your clothes and in any material made of fabric. Bed bugs can’t stand long under extreme heat, therefore, applying heat and using the dryer after washing your clothes will surely put those sneaky pests to eternal rest.

Vacuum regularly.

Vacuum cleaning does not only remove dust and dirt. It also sucks bed bugs, including their nymphs and eggs, out of their hiding areas. You can use the vacuum in your efforts to eradicate bed bugs from your mattresses, furniture, curtains, and other areas they may be inhabiting.

Block pest entry.

If you do not want pests to gain access to your home, then you must thoroughly inspect your household for possible openings like cracks, crevices, and tears on window screens as these will provide pests the opportunity to enter your home. Meticulously seal these openings and entry points right away especially that those tiny pests like ants and cockroaches will always find a way to find tiny gaps they can easily fit into.

Inspect your plumbing conditions.

Broken pipes, leaks, and clogged drains definitely play a part in your encounter with pesky pests. These negative plumbing conditions can lead to a damp and moldy environment that can attract pests who prefer moisture.

Maintain your garden.

The branches of trees and shrubs, especially those that are planted very closely to your home structure (i.e. door and windows), may be used by pests to gain entry to your home. Hence, it is most important for homeowners to regularly trim their vegetation.

As homeowners, we have to be always mindful of these tips so we can protect our home from pest infestation. Another important reminder is to keep ourselves informed of any pest-related happenings in the neighborhood. If you hear that your neighbor is having a pest infestation, be alert and take advanced preventive measures. Most of all, do not hesitate to call a pest control professional to help you with your pest problem.
