Luggage Straps: What Are They and Why Do You Need Them?

Luggage straps are strong, sturdy straps that you wrap around your packed bag before checking it in. You are probably thinking why you would need a baggage strap in the first place. After all, the most efficient bags should be designed in such a manner that they do not require additional accessories. But, unfortunately, most luggage are not the most efficient, and we cannot just buy all of them. For the more cautious traveller, extra devices like baggage locks, suitcase coverings, straps, or smart trackers are often necessary.

And a forward-thinking individual searches for the principal use of a baggage strap. Your luggage might give out when you least expect it, as I learned from personal experience, so it's best to be prepared. In the event of a damaged zipper, luggage straps serve as a safety measure. Zippers, especially on hard-shell luggage, can sometimes break or open if they are worn out if the case is overpacked. Luggage straps prevent your stuff from spilling out, preventing you from losing them and making potentially embarrassing displays at the luggage carousel.

Other uses for baggage straps include:

1. Bright straps make it simpler to find your suitcase. I have a set of bright green baggage straps. For aesthetic reasons (lime green isn't everyone's favourite accessory colour), some may shy away from this option. However, I believe the overall look isn't that awful when paired with my black checked bag. Even if it is, brightly coloured luggage straps make it much simpler to find your belongings among a sea of black bags on the luggage carousel.

There will be no more straining your eyes for what seems like an eternity, or maybe passing your own bag. Consider these straps an investment in your time. Another alternative is to get a colourful luggage cover, which will protect your bag from overflowing but is more expensive than straps.

2. Some straps are designed to connect two or more bags. Having trouble manoeuvring your three-piece baggage set? There is, however, a simple solution to this problem. Get some standard luggage straps and use them to tie your suitcases together so you don't have to rip them apart.

3. For further security, certain straps feature built-in TSA combination locks. Although most of the less costly luggage straps have a plastic push-button closure, the more expensive ones include built-in TSA combination locks for extra protection. It's actually not that easy to remove the straps if they're securely fastened and stretched across the handles. However, I don't believe they provide adequate security because the straps are readily cut apart. It only makes the job of the burglars a little more difficult.

Luggage Straps: How to Use Them?

Luggage straps are, in essence, quite simple to use. All you have to do now is make sure the strap is pulled through the handle so it doesn't slip off. The manner you use baggage straps, on the other hand, varies depending on the type of luggage strap. But the way of using luggage straps in general include:

1. Place your luggage vertically on its wheels to begin;

2. Wrap the luggage strap over the width of your bag and through the side handle;

3. If the bag lacks a side handle, wrap the strap around the bag's height by drawing it through both top handles;

4. Adjust the length of the strap before fastening it so that it rests firmly;

5. Secure the strap by pulling it through a handle and making sure it's a snug fit (though not too tight, as this might damage your case).
