Life Hack: Easy Money for Broke College Students

For those broke college students that are busting out the pennies and living off ramen noodles & Dominos (like me).

College is difficult, that is a fact. Whether it's trying to get essays done before the 11:59 PM deadline, finding the motivation to wake up and look decent for our 8 AM class, or even trying to budget your eating habits (because YES, "Freshman 15" IS a thing). Most college students rely on quick, cheap and easy meals, such as Taco Bell, Chick-fil-a, McDonalds, Wendys, Dunkin' Donuts, Steak n' Shake... I could go on for hours. This is especially convenient because a lot of these places are open late, and for those late night procrastinators, food helps the frustration. But, even these cheap meals add up, and they don't look so 'cheap' after a while.

Thankfully the world has a solution for the young, broke and hungry college students.

Here is a list of apps, sites and companies that were basically MADE for people like us to help you make quick and easy money.

Recommended if you...

  • Love dogs
  • Have some free time
  • Don't mind/love nature
  • Love exercise or are looking for more ways to get active
  • Want to keep Freshman 15 away and to get spring break ready

Not gonna lie, I've ordered off here a lot—especially when I was in high school and didn't have a car, or was too lazy to walk into a place to get decent food. This company works around your schedule, so you work what hours you want and however many hours you want. And each order pays you gas money and a service charge! Trust me, these people make bank for delivery drivers.

Recommended if you...

  • Have a car
  • Don't mind calling in orders from restaurants, picking up, and delivering to customers
  • Good with directions
  • Good communication skills

This option, however, is not available in all areas. Other companies that do something similar to this include: Uber Eats, Bite Squad, Grubhub, Postmates, and Eat24.

Sell your old stuff off eBay, Facebook, Amazon, Letitgo, etc. When doing this, though, be aware that most of these require you to ship your items, unless you meet with the buyer in person. In which case, if you do choose to meet with the buyer in person, I suggest that you not meet at your home or dorm, unless necessary. Try to meet in a public area, and meet at your place only if you have to. I suggest you have another person in the room with you.

Babysit

Post fliers around the area, or even on campus boards (there's a lot of teen moms these days). Even ask local elementary schools, churches, day-cares, etc, if you could post fliers. Put your name and number out there!

You can even work for a babysitting company to find clients easier.

Recommended more so for those with a lot more free time and who really love dogs, as well as have a place to foster the dogs. However, you can also dog sit at the client's house. Just be sure to put in your bio that you're only taking house calls if fostering is not an option for you.

If you're really good at a subject, why not make money off it? Here are some more helpful tutoring websites:

There are plenty of other games you can find online, however, this was the only one that caught my interest. Win money just by knowing stuff, whether it's everything Horror movies, Disney fanatic, or you have a favorite show you know a lot about. They have live competitions every night at 9 PM, if you're in the last 100 standing at the end, you win money. It's that simple!

You don't need a ton of followers to influence others! Start from the bottom! All you need are people who will listen to you, and not just click through your social media stories or scroll past your feeds. Get supportive friends to help get the word out too. All you need is a voice, an opinion and passion. You must be very active to build up your media profile, but have fun with it and, who knows, maybe companies will sponsor you!

Keep an eye out for Ambassador jobs and opportunities! You'll find that you can discover a lot in Instagram ads! (A lot of upcoming clothing or beauty lines will have these!)
