Something that may not be too surprising is that lifting an extremely heavy, all-metal contraption with wings and full of people to 35,000 feet above the ground isn’t the cleanest or more efficient form of travel. It’s also not too surprising that if you tried to walk to Cabo, you would use all your vacation time – and then some. As a result, air travel is a necessity. While this is true, it doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to make your experience greener, which is good for you and the world.

From finding airlines using different types of renewable energy to taking travel into your own hands and making specific changes, you can have a green and eco-friendly travel experience. Keep reading to learn just how you can do this.

Take Along a Water Bottle

It’s a good idea to bring along a reusable water bottle with you when you go to the airport. Not only will this help you save money, but it helps to keep bottles out of the landfills. While you aren’t able to bring along full bottles of water as you go through TSA, but you can bring along an empty bottle in your carry on and then fill them up once you have gone through security. You can also keep from paying the inflated prices for the bottles of water that are sold at the airport.

Don’t Print Your Boarding Pass

The majority of modern airlines are going to give you the ability to download your boarding pass to your phone and then access it through your app. As a result, you don’t have to print it. All you need to do is to pull up your boarding pass on your device and then show it as you go through the security checkpoints and board the plane. An added bonus of this is that you will have one less thing to carry through the security checkpoint with you.

Take Along a Snack in Reusable Containers

The last thing you want to have to do is to pay outrageous prices for a subpar meal at the airport or a bag of chips – right? Along with the concept of taking along a water bottle, you should also take along your own snacks in a reusable container from your house. This will help you save money and reduce your packaging waste. If you have a longer trip, then you can also prevent the waste of food by taking along food from home that may have gone bad while you are away.

Pack Less Stuff

When you pack and take along less stuff on the plane, then the plane itself is going to be lighter. Even if it is just a few pounds, it means that you are going to be helping to conserve energy. If possible, only take a carry-on with you. This is also going to make the entire trip more enjoyable because you don’t have to stop at the baggage claim to try to find your luggage.

Consider Shared and Public Transportation to Get to or from the Airport

When many people are sharing a single vehicle (train, bus, etc.) it will be much more efficient than everyone taking individual vehicles. You are also going to be able to save money on parking at the airport, which in some cases, can cost a hundred dollars or more.

Green Travel is Possible

If you are interested in green travel, then there is no question that there are options you can use to help you do this. It is important that you take the right steps and make conscious efforts to minimize your impact on the environment. It’s also a good idea to make sure that you choose an airline that uses green practices, as this is going to be a huge factor in how green your travel is and the impact that you wind up having on the environment.
