Stepping out of a warm bath into a clean, fresh towel is a fantastic feeling. Keeping your towels soft and fluffy is a lot harder than it seems. Towels often turn rough and limp after a few washes. It can be quite disappointing when that happens with your favorite luxury bathroom towels.

Is there a way to keep your towels soft and fluffy even after several washes? Luckily, there is. Using the right technique to wash and dry your towels could keep them plush for years to come.

How should you wash your towels?

Do you wash your dirty towels with the rest of your laundry? If you do, stop now. Washing your towels with other soiled laundry prevents your towels from getting clean and fresh.

When you need to wash your towels at home, begin by separating your light and dark towels. If you have white towels, you must never wash them with colored towels. The darker colors could bleed discoloring your white or light-colored towels.

Do not overload your washing machine. Also, use a small amount of detergent. Using excess detergent could end up making your towels stiff, and you do not want that. Ideally, you should use about half the amount you would normally use. Do you need any special detergent to wash towels? Not really. Whatever you are using to wash your regular laundry is fine.

Are there stains on your towels? You may use bleach to get rid of them, especially on your white towels. If you want to remove stains from your colored towels, make sure that you use color-safe bleach only. You do not want bleach spots or faded colors on your towels, do you?

Use the regular wash cycle on your washing machine to wash your luxury or high-end bath towels. The longer wash time and faster spin ensure that dirt and bacteria are cleaned from the fibers of the towels.

At what temperature should you wash your towels?

If you are washing white or light-colored towels, use the hot setting on your washing machine. Your towels will come out clean and brighter-looking. For darker colors, the warm water setting works well. Warm water cleans your towels while keeping the colors safe.

How often do you need to wash your towels?

You should wash your luxury bathroom towels every three to four days. Hand towels should be washed after every two days. Not washing your towels for long periods could expose your skin to bacteria, mold, and yeast.

How should you dry your towels?

Washing your towels the right way is not enough. You should ensure that you dry them right too to keep them soft and fluffy for longer.

Before putting your towels in the dryer, take them out of the washer and shake them to remove any excess water. Doing so will not only keep your towels soft but also shorten the drying time. You can dry high-end bath towels in the dryer, but it is okay to air dry them too. Use the regular cycle on the dryer to avoid damaging the delicate fibers of your luxury bathroom towels. Do not leave your towels in the dryer after the cycle is complete to avoid wrinkles. Letting your towels sit in the dryer for a long time could also cause a mildewy odor.

How to care for your towels?

With the right care, your luxury bathroom towels can last you several years without losing their softness. Always fold your clean, dry towels and store them in a linen closet or drawer. Never store damp towels as they can become a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Ensure that your towels are fully dry before you store them.

Fabric softeners add softness and a nice fragrance to your clothes. You can use fabric softener, but add it after every three or four washes. Fabric softeners can end up depositing a waxy residue on the fibers, inhibiting water absorption.

You should also never iron towels. The heat could flatten the delicate fibers and your towels would not be as soft as you like.

New towels should always be washed first before use. Adding vinegar also helps refresh your towels.

Good-quality bathroom towels can last for several years with proper care. Make sure to check the label on your towels for proper washing and drying instructions.
