De-cluttering can be so much more than just throwing away some things you no longer want or use. Sometimes it can feel necessary that we take the time to de-clutter every aspect of our lives. Leaving us in a far better and organised place.

Depending on what ideas you try, or what you may already do in your day to day life, can leave you feeling less cluttered and in a calmer in your surroundings; as well as a calmer mental and even spiritual state.

Should you be more on the spiritual side like myself, then I highly recommend utilising any practices you may use. Such as allowing the air to flow through the room to remove any negative and stale energies. Perhaps even cleansing with a smudge stick.

So today, I am going to give you lovely readers ten tips on what you can do to ensure you thoroughly declutter your life.

Clean Out Your Room and/or Home

Whether you still live with family, have roommates, or have your own place, take some time to thoroughly clean what is yours to look after.

Throw any rubbish which may be lying around the home into the bin.

Throw Out, Donate, or Sell What You No Longer Need

If anything happens to be out of date, throw it out. If you get rid of anything, decide whether it has to be thrown out, or if it's good enough to be donated to a charity or thrift shop or even attempt to resell it yourself.

Reorganise

Been eyeing up your bookcase, knowing you could rejig it to look better? Well, now's the time.

Rearrange, neaten up, or just simply reorganise and rehome some of the items in your space which may feel slightly in the way to you.

Dust, Clean Windows, Vacuum

This is one of those times where I would highly suggest utilising some of your more spiritual practices, such as opening the windows wide.

Personally, I prefer to have them open when dusting and vacuuming. Removing all of that stale air that's settled into the rooms (especially the bedroom, the difference is amazing)

While dusting definitely makes the room look better, I can't help but appreciate seeing the windows looking clean again.

Go Through Your Wardrobe

If you have clothes in your wardrobe that you haven't worn in the last twelve months, get rid of them. This rule is perfect for stopping yourself from hoarding clothing you just don't wear anymore.

This is my go-to trick, and for first-timers, if there's anything you aren't too sure on leave it in your wardrobe, and if you still haven't worn it within the next year, it's time to say goodbye.

I love this method, it makes it far easier to be stricter with myself when I know I need a clearout. I even plan to use it again soon!

Your Shoes

Good quality footwear is a godsent, but we don't always get that. Look at your shoes. Do you have an unnecessary amount? Are any too worn down that it's time they go?

If you have a pair of shoes that you no longer wear due to damage, get them repaired. Wear what makes you happy and do what you can to take care of them.

I'm probably one of the however many women out there who aren't that fussed with owning a lot of shoes, but I know I'd rather have what I want to wear than let so many go to waste. But that may be because I prefer a slightly more minimalist lifestyle when it comes to things like shoes, but at the end of the day, it's down to you. If you're happy with what you have, that's plenty.

The Computer

Clean up your files. Delete what's no longer needed. Organise your documents and folders so they're easier for you to navigate.

Social Media

There's no point in following those who leave you feeling anything less than happy. It's okay to remove people from your Facebook friends list or hit unfollow on Instagram because they bring you down mentally.

You're not stuck with everyone who you choose to follow. It is still your choice if you want to see them on your feed or not.

Paperwork

Ensuring your paperwork is organised, up to date, and any unnecessary files are properly disposed of can be a weight off of your shoulders.

Declutter Your Mind

Personally, I find this to be the most important one. For the ideas, the creativity, and thoughts you don't want to forget. Write them all down and keep those notes in a safe place — I'd suggest writing it by hand first, then typing it out.

For the negative and more toxic thoughts, take scrap paper — or any paper you have to hand — and write down everything and anything which comes to mind. Pour all of those bad thoughts onto paper. After, dispose of it all. Whether you choose to shred it, burn it, whatever way you want to dispose of it. Know you're allowed to release those thoughts from yourself when you dispose of it.

That wraps up the list I have for you today. You can try all of these, or only one or two. But these are what I know work for me, and leave me feeling with clearer surrounds, as well as a clearer head.
