Stone Flooring Style For 2020

Stone flooring is a classic look that never seems to go out of style and it’s a look that I’m loving in my own home right now. If you’re thinking about adding stone type flooring to your home next year, there are some really important tips and tricks that you should know about before you go installing any flooring into your home. Afterall, if you’re going to spend money on stunning flooring, then you really need to know how to style it to make the most of your gorgeous new interior.

Types of Stone Flooring

Stone flooring is typically one of the more expensive options for covering your floors at home. However, there are a number of different options that can suit any style or budget whilst still giving you the great look of smooth stone floors in your home. Luxury vinyl tiles are an extremely popular option for covering your floor- there are hundreds of faux-stone tiles that deliver an authentic-looking feel for your floor. These tiles feature the natural colours and textures of real stone, have all the veining, marks and dents that true stone floors would give but they can be up to a third of the price of real stone floor tiles. From a practical point of view, stone-type vinyl tiles are super-durable, scratch-resistant, moisture-resistant, easy to clean and a dream to install. The other great thing about stone-look vinyl tiles is that if you drop something heavy on them, they’re unlikely to break; porcelain, ceramic and marble tiles all carry the risk of cracks, dents and smashing.

Porcelain, limestone, travertine, and slate all appear to be the most popular coming trends so look for vinyl tiles in these designs to save yourself some serious money in your renovation project.

Add Texture

A really lovely way to style stone flooring in your home is to add texture into the room that compliments the natural design of the stone. To create a highly polished, professionally designed look, you could add chrome, steel or other complementary metals to give an industrial chic feel to your space. For a more rustic, French Country feel, add heavy wood textures to worktops, cabinets, wardrobes and tables to emulate the Parisian cottage style. Foliage and plants are also a great way to add texture and colour to your home. One of my favourite bathroom looks is dark, sleek stone floors, chrome taps and chunky green Swiss Cheese plants. The big, enveloping leaves in strong vibrant green just bring the floor to life. Chunky woven rugs are also a great addition to rooms with stone floors.

Colour Combinations

My favourite colours to pair with stone flooring entirely depends on which type of flooring you’re planning on installing. Polar white marble floors look fantastic with darker grey walls. Moroccan inspired limestone flags in terracotta shades look incredible when paired with magnolia as it allows the floor to sing. Tumbled limestone floors give an authentic antique vibe when combined with chalk paints, ashy-toned greys and pastel blues. One trend that’s sure to be all over homes and Instagram in 2020 is mirroring; this is picking the same type of covering for your floor as your walls. This can be a really great look but just check with the manufacturer that the flooring is suitable for multiple surfaces.

2020 promises to be a huge year for stone floors- my advice is to be bold, browse Pinterest, and do what feels best for your space. Have you considered luxury vinyl stone tiles before this post? Let me know your thoughts!
