Qatar is one of the warmest and hottest holiday hotspots on the planet, and vacationing in this emirate can be quite challenging for first-time visitors. This is especially true for those who are hailing from colder climates as the weather during the daytime may prove quite unbearable for those who don't know how to stay cool. From staying hydrated to using your time wisely, here's how to explore the best of Qatar without suffering a heat stroke.

1. Don a Hat

A wide-brimmed hat can do wonders to keep the sun not only out of your eyes but also your face and neck. While it is imperative to take it off when you're in the shade, wearing a hat and sunglasses at all times provides protection from the harmful rays of the sun and the discomfort one would feel if one were facing the elements without these accessories. Soaking the hat in water is also a good idea for those who are going on horseback or camel rides in the open desert as the heat will steam off the hat and create a cooling effect. Baseball caps and other headgear does not provide coverage for travelling around a desert, period.

2. Walk Slowly and Safely

One of the most sudden ways in which the heat can affect tourists and cause fainting spells and fatigue is when walking or overexerting yourself outdoors. Dehydration can set in fast when one is venturing outside in such an arid atmosphere so don't walk quickly or rush when navigating the highways and byways of Qatar. Walk slowly and take frequent breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned shops and cafes. Drivers in Qatar are also known for their recklessness and lack of respect for road rules so it is very important to keep your wits about you when walking around.

3. Use Sandals

While it may seem counter-intuitive, sandals are more heat resistant than sneakers or any other type of footwear that provides more coverage. Those living in tropical and arid nations have stuck to wearing sandals for centuries due to their versatility and heat-resistant nature but make sure the sandals you bring on the trip are not new but well-worn.

4. Wear Sunscreen

Although it won't provide the level of protection one would expect, sunscreen is another essential that tourists cannot do without in Qatar. While sunblock is more effective in beach weather, those with sensitive skin will find that wearing suntan lotion can prevent blisters and patches from forming due to extreme heat. Make sure you don't use too much as lotion that's not absorbed into the skin can make things even more sticky and difficult if one is not careful.

5. Don't Ditch Undergarments

Wearing undergarments in a hot and humid landscape like desert capitals, including Qatar, can have benefits despite the perception of them being restrictive. Undergarments serve purposes such as providing support, preventing chafing, and managing sweat. They act as a barrier, absorbing perspiration and protecting outer clothing. Additionally, undergarments play a role in maintaining personal hygiene by preventing bacteria buildup and reducing the risk of infections. While sweating may occur more in such climates, appropriate undergarments can effectively manage sweat and moisture, helping clothing last longer. Ultimately, the decision to wear undergarments or layered clothing is a personal choice, but their use can enhance comfort, hygiene, and clothing protection in hot and humid conditions.

6. Stay Hydrated

While there are plenty of drinking fountains around Qatar, those who are heading out of Al Najada Doha Hotel Apartments By Oaks or any of the other hotel apartments in Doha should pack their own bottle of drinking water. The trick is to enjoy little sips of water every few minutes so you don't need to use the bathroom often.

7. Change Outfits Often

Wearing sweaty clothing for long periods is not recommended so it is crucial to head back to the hotel to change when you have multiple outings or excursions planned in a single day. Showering before wearing new clothes also helps one feel cooler for longer, so if time is not an issue, take a quick shower.
