Something else that often happens during summer is people moving to a new home. That’s right; summer is a peak moving season in Australia. You may have been surprised to read that summer is peak moving season because the sweltering heat can make moving even more difficult. However, it is when the housing market is at its most active, and it’s a great time to buy a property.

Also, parents often have time off to look after their children during the long school holidays over this time. This means that they are free to move to a new house, with plenty of time to set everything up before the school year begins again. If you are considering moving, then here are some useful tips that you can consider.

Book movers in advance

If you’re moving during the summer, you will want to hire house movers to help you out. This saves you from doing all of the heavy liftings. Imagine moving everything yourself on a super hot day – you will get tired and exhausted very quickly, causing it to take longer. Instead, you should hire a fit and able team of movers with the stamina to keep going all day long.

What the best time to book in-house movers? As soon as you know your moving date, you should go ahead and book in. Otherwise, you may risk missing out on your ideal date for moving, leaving you in a limbo situation. You often need to leave your previous dwelling by a specific date so if you leave it too late; you may end up having to hire subpar movers just because they are free on the right day.

Book during a weekday

Moving during peak season is not a cheap exercise, as there is a high demand for moving services during this time. To avoid additional charges, see if you can move on a weekday. Most house movers lower their rates on weekdays due to the lessened demand on these days. Weekends fill up fast for movers, but weekdays? Not so much.

Avoid public holidays

When deciding on your moving date, check when the public holidays are this year. There are plenty around the Christmas season, and moving on these dates will be more expensive even if it’s a weekday.

Get a friend to pet-sit

If you have a dog or cat that likes to escape when you leave the door open, you need to make arrangements for your animals on moving day. Movers will be coming in and out of your home, opening all of the doors. There is a high chance of your pet escaping. To keep them safe, see if a neighbor or friend will look after your pet for you on moving day. Then you can go and pick them up before making the trip to your new house.

Unsure necessary items are climate-controlled

Some items do not fare well in hot climates. The inside of a moving truck can get extremely hot because it is usually made of metal. Technology such as laptops, phones, and tablets should be kept in a climate-controlled environment. If your moving company doesn’t offer this service, bring these possessions in the car with you as you will be cranking the AC. That should prevent them from getting too hot.

Create a moving checklist

Use a moving checklist online that will take you through each thing you need to do to prepare for your move. These step-by-step guides are fantastic for making sure that you don’t forget to do any of the important stuff leading up to your move. These can include everything from sourcing packing boxes to cleaning out your fridge on the day. And in summer, you definitely don’t want to forget that one!

Declutter your house in advance

The fewer items you own when moving, the better. While movers don’t charge by the item, a move with loads of belongings will take longer and therefore be more expensive. It can take more time as well as more movers to move your stuff. So, before you head away, start decluttering your home. Sell or give away anything that you no longer need or use. This also saves you plenty of time when you’re packing as you won’t be bothering to carefully wrap up possessions that will just go unused at your new home.

Summing up

Moving during the peak season may be unavoidable, depending on your situation. Whether you’ve landed a new job or found the perfect house, it has to be done. Hiring premium removal services, however, can help you a great deal. Hiring movers you can trust will make your move much smoother as you don’t need to worry about items getting damaged in transit.

You can focus on getting your kids into a new school, unpacking your new house, and settling into your new job. Let the movers take care of all the moving details. Some high-end movers even offer furniture storage, piano moving, and free packing boxes. It is these types of extra services that go above and beyond to make your move as simple as possible on the day.
