dreams of fairyland

a fairytale palace island fit for a princess

*none of the images are tragically mine :( YET! (they're from Pinterest/Tumblr/Google)

As a future Architect all I do is dream of things I will one day add into my own dream home, so this challenge is basically just putting my dreams into words and images (FINALLY!).

running through my dream home in a gorgeous flowy dress

My dream starts off in a very huge but secluded island (on high ground, surprisingly close to the city!), with 8 separate areas; a palace home, huge pool behind the home, gardens (one is secret) surrounding the home, an art/painting studio, a lake/pond, a cottage overlooking the lake, a small island beach cove, and forest covering the rest of the area.

Video

This video represents the main theme of the dream fairytale palace/cottage/island. The main style of design used is Mediterranean/Spanish with bits of Indian/Mughal styles of decor added.

Main Home

main living room

Upon entering the double doored foyer, you will lay your eyes on a massive living room, super high ceiling and grand chandeliers, the roof is completely made of glass to get natural sunlight in and use less electricity throughout the day. Grand interiors and a huge dining table are other sections in the home.

main staircase

To the side of the main living space is the staircase leading upstairs to the bedrooms. Behind the staircase is the entrance to the kitchen and the private living room.

The home interior and exterior design will be based heavily on Italianate style architecture, especially the gardens. Inside the home painted ceilings will be featured as much as possible (which I aim to paint myself).

painted ceiling

Long hallways leading to the other rooms and bedrooms will feature huge checked stained glass windows to let in natural sunlight (and to film dramatic running videos in beautifully created dresses ofc).

long hallway, huge windows, checkered floor tiles

The master bedroom of the house will carry the theme of the Indian/Italianate architecture/design scheme. With high ceilings, huge windows and gorgeous views, and ofc comfortable bedding and lots of mirrors!

The bedroom balcony (on the other side to the window seating), will have a staircase for easier access to the pools and gardens!

Pool (indoor and outdoor)

half indoor half outdoor bar pool

This pool will be behind the main property, a bar attached to the pool so that the it can be a great area for a part or a quick dip on a hot night.

Additional seating will be added to the sides of the pool, obviously stuck to the floor of the pool for drinks in the pool!

Gardens

There'll be a garden on the front of the property and also on the back. Near the kitchen I will plant a mini food garden to grow fresh veggies to use throughout the year.

The garden that is close to the pool in the back will feature a grand courtyard style garden, with sculptures and fountains to see and beautiful flowers to look at whilst enjoying a nice garden dinner in the summer!

In the middle of this garden, I will have a little secret door, covered in ivy and hidden away, leading to my own secret garden (inspired by the book ofc!). This will be my most prized place! Sort of like a garden of Eden, with Apple and fig trees, and ofc lemons and oranges! Roses, cherry blossoms and wisteria flowers making it all colourful and lovely! In the centre will be a glasshouse which will hold my most special plants and my bonsai collection!

Art Studio

lots of windows in art studio

Another place that I am likely to be found in almost all the time is my art studio, at the moment, I am lucky enough to have a room in my house as my art studio, but my dream art studio would be a separate space, made to hold the chaos of my mind while I dream and paint and draw!

This space would also have lots of natural sunlight from big windows and ofc cannot forget my glass dome at the top, which I will hand stain before it is built!

Lake/Pond

The greatest part about owning a massive piece of land is the nature that come with it, or maybe even built! If the property that I buy has it's own natural pond that would be glorious, however, if it doesn't there are ways to make a natural looking man-made lake/pond!

manmade pond

Instead of the fountains added I'd have this lake built near a massive, sturdy tree so that I may add a swing!

Cottage Over Lake

The best part about a man-made lake is that overtime it will become integrated with the nature surrounding it, but while it is being built it becomes much easier to build strong rooms atop or around it.

I would add a little cottage home here with two rooms being the main focus. One would be a dining room (for a change of scenery from the garden dinners!).

And the other, a very comfortable cottage style bedroom opening right on top of the water!

Beach Cove

A small beach cove to the edge of the island! Cute little picnics and parties to be had here! Swimming right in the ocean and feeling like you own the whole world!

beach cove

Forest

Of course a forest is a necessity! How else would the idea of living in a secluded fairyland be possible? This forest would surround all the separate ares and wherever the biggest, tallest, and strongest tree was in this forest I would build a treehouse!

super high treehouse

With a bed and a bathtub!

Other little details

Some other inspiration and details that I may have missed.

A library/office in the main home.

Hoping to add a courtyard style seating area in the middle of the home, called a Riad, heavily used in Moroccan Architecture.

Riad

A small indoor pool may also be added.

indoor pool/open area

All the chandeliers in the main living area will be shaped like huge pirate/ancient navy ships! three to be exact all shaped differently and looking like they're following each other.

The art studio would have a storage level with an opening to let down the light from the skylight, I would have ivy and vines flowing down here to give it a vintage, abandoned look.
