We always hear how the kitchen is the heart of every home or how the living room is the most important room in a house. But rarely ever do we hear about bedrooms and their importance. Not only that, but a lot of people actually find it very difficult to style this room properly, because they don’t know what their options are.

So, if you too are struggling with designing your bedroom and managing to come up with the best possible style solution for space, check these ideas out.

Make sure it’s bright and airy.

First and foremost, you need to make sure that you air out your bedroom on a regular basis, because there’s simply nothing worse than a stuffy room. Preferably, your room should also have plenty of sunlight, even though it is a bedroom. The reason behind this is that sunlight is actually an excellent means to battle various indoor air germs and disease-causing bacteria. That being said, if your bedroom is not located on the sunny side of your home, there’s really not much you can do about it. But even then, make sure you air it out frequently, and take your pillows and covers outside, and let them soak in some sun.

Choose the right color scheme.

When looking for the best color scheme for your bedroom, things can get a bit tricky. People usually advise sticking to neutrals and pastels in order to not end up with a space that just looks too overwhelming. However, if you don’t particularly like neutrals and pastels, you won’t like your bedroom very much. So, instead of taking this route, think about the colors you actually like. Since the bedroom is the place you’ll spend the majority of time sleeping in, you can even go with dark walls if that’s something up your alley. But that being said, it would still be wise to avoid colors such as red, orange, or yellow, because they are quite energetic hues, so you might find them too stimulating when they should be lulling you into dreamland.

Pay special attention to the bed.

The bed is the most important furniture piece in your bedroom. The first, most obvious reason is the fact that it’s the biggest furniture piece in the room, which instantly makes it a focal point of the room. This means that, when decorating, make sure you pay special attention to your bed, and its immediate surroundings. The second, not so obvious reason is the fact that this is precisely where you’ll be getting your beauty sleep, which means that your bed should be perfectly comfortable, and not just pretty. Therefore, make sure you boost the design of your bed area with a stunning headboard, and invest in a high-quality mattress, such as this king mattress, to ensure ultimate comfort when sleeping. Furthermore, add a couple of bedside tables next to your bed, and for that additional oomph, consider lifting them off the ground.

Decide on the best flooring solution.

When choosing a flooring solution for your bedroom, you want to go with something that will, of course, look stunning, but also something that will be super easy to clean and maintain. If you already have a hardwood floor, simply sand the old lacquer down, and apply a new coat to give it some of its old shine back. Hardwood floors are always the best flooring solution as they look simply stunning, they are very easy to clean, and they are excellent insulators. However, for some additional comfort, you should consider framing your bed area with a rug. Here, if possible, always choose woolen rugs, because they are super durable, but also hypoallergenic as they don’t harbor any dirt and grime.

Add some plants

Indoor plants were once placed only in areas such as the bedroom and the dining room. However, nowadays, people are becoming increasingly aware of just how beneficial surrounding yourself with indoor plants actually is. Not only do these little potted pals purify our indoor air, and thus improve its quality, but they also have some positive effects on our sleep. Numerous studies show that indoor plants have the ability to put our minds at ease, and overall positively affect our well-being. That being said, it comes as no surprise that they can actually help us relax quicker and drift off to dreamland. When choosing plants, look for Pothos, Peace Lily, Rubber Fig and Dracaena, as these are all quite easy to maintain, but they are very rich in leaves, and extremely pleasing to the eye.

Therefore, when designing your bedroom, make sure you keep these tips in mind to ensure that you are left with a beautiful serene environment that will easily help you relax and get some of that much-needed rest. The fact that not everyone will get the chance to see your bedroom doesn’t mean that it should be bland and boring.
