Interior trends and fashions are constantly changing and it can be tricky to keep up with the times. Recently, there has been a new wave of popularity for minimalistic, marble and gold themed interiors which had everybody turning to Pinterest for inspiration. However, these kinds of trends go out of date quite quickly and you could be left with a "so last season" interior.

A way to avoid having an out-of-date interior is to choose certain plain schemes. Neutral paints can lend themselves nicely to classic, timeless designs that will always be able to keep up with the fast-paced world of interior design. Discover how to create a space that will never go out of fashion below!

Plan with Balance in Mind

Before picking up a paintbrush, try a pen and paper or even a laptop! Map out your room and look for inspiration online. When looking for ideas, steer away from the current fads and look for interiors with plain yet striking designs that are flexible with changing trends. For example, white rooms are plain however, embellished with hot seasonal accents like trendy lamps and pictures — it becomes a beautiful stylish interior!

When looking for ideas it is also key to consider how much space there is in a room. When creating the right amount of balance, you need to choose items that are thoughtful of the overall dimensions of the space. An overly crowded space can make a space seem dark and claustrophobic which is always out of fashion!

Create a Transitional Canvas

Another key factor in creating an ageless interior is to make the canvas as simple as possible. Plain and neutral coloured walls create a fabulous foundation, which looks great against any furnishings. Also, Beige, creams and off-white colour palettes give a simple yet clean feel for any arrangement, which makes it a perfect backdrop for home staging if you are wanting to show off your property’s best side when selling. The flexibility of neutral colours means you can get creative with the finishing touches by playing with textures to create depth and focal points.

Depth with a Difference

Create depth with different textures and patterns by adding fluffy cushions, eye-catching lamps and beautiful throws that follow a similar shade palette to your walls. Of course, embellishing your room with bold and quirky accessories is a great way to create a statement with a splash of colour. What is fab about accessorising with cushions and throws is that these furnishings can be easily be switched up when you want to vary the feel of a room.

Letting Light In

A way to create depth without adding to your collection of accessories is with lighting, both natural and artificial. Natural lighting should be taken advantage of as much as possible! This can be accomplished through adding furnishings like tasteful window netting that will help maintain privacy as well as letting light flood in or you could place a mirror opposite a window to increase where the light can reach.

On the other hand, you can easily complement your classic interior design with artificial lighting to minimise shadows. Dark shadowed areas are the types of depth you do not want, so lowering lighting to floor, table and eye level will encourage a lighter and brighter space whilst complementing the neutral walls.

Creating a classic interior means you will always be on trend, these ageless styles never go out of fashion and can be accessorised easily and cheaply depending on your mood and tastes! Not only that, it is styles like this that can be to everyone’s tastes and make it easier for you to sell or rent your property.
