When you buy a new house, the first thing you want to do is decorate its interior as per your aesthetic sense. If money is not a problem for you, then you buy lots of furniture and put them inside the bedroom, drawing room and suddenly realize that things are not right!

You are not getting the positive vibe as you expected and movement inside the rooms is not comfortable at all!

Interior furniture placement is not as simple as it seems. There is a lot of things you need to consider before spending money on a sofa, divan, and bed.

You may have seen several pictures of classy and elegant drawing rooms on interior designing websites and bought the exact items shown there, but have you ever paid attention to the size of the room? The floor space is a very crucial factor while selecting furniture for interior design because if you place a large sofa in a relatively small living room, instead of increasing the beauty of the area, it will create practical problems.

Wrong placement of furniture leads to visual disharmony and guests will feel uncomfortable inside your home.

Therefore, arranging chairs, sofas, lamps, tables, and other furniture should be premeditated, rather than chaotic.

Arranging furniture properly can improve the traffic flow and organization of a room while helping to draw attention to whatever portion of the room is most imperative to you.

Here are some suggestions that will help you improve your house’s interior design by proper placement of furniture.

1. Measure the area

First things first. You must measure the total floor space of your house. Calculate each room separately for better arrangement.

For example, you can start with the drawing room and write your own total square feet on paper. Make sure that you measure windows and doors as well, because later you have to deduct the door area from the total floor area of your drawing room. Why? Because you can’t keep the furniture in front of the door! Once, you get an idea of the total free area; decide how many items you want to place.

Depending on the number of furniture, you can either buy large pieces or stick with the small ones. For example, if you want only a sofa and center table, then you can opt for a larger size, while if you want to add a divan as well, you may need to buy a smaller sofa.

However, in case there is plenty of room for everything, you can buy a large sofa and divan without any worry.

2. Mix them up

Every furniture has a height, width, and depth. To make things exciting, you should place a range of furniture with different characteristics. However, if you want a more serene environment, keep the furnishing volumes similar.

3. Use scaled pieces to maintain balance

The size of pieces relative to one another and the size of the space is their scale. Scaled pieces look wonderful when used together. You can maintain harmony in the interior design by placing items that appreciate each other’s height, width, and depth.

For example, the center table must be lower than the sofa and much smaller in width. On the contrary, you can place a tall candle stand on top of the table to maintain the balance between all these three elements.

4. Occasional use of asymmetry is interesting

Think like an artist and you will be able to discover the beauty of asymmetry. While most people prefer symmetrical arrangements, only a handful of people realize the true power of asymmetry.

For example, on top of the fireplace, you can place one tall and one small candle stand next to each other for a stark visual effect. Similarly, you can keep two white leather couches and a black leather couch to make the black one the center of attraction.

Since, it’s just one piece and completely different from others, guests will feel that the seat is reserved for the owner of the house. Asymmetry adds power and authority to the specific objects.

5. Use “triangulation”

Triangulation is a visual technique, used by painters to add depth to a place. You can do the same with your Every furniture decoration as well.

For example, you can place two end tables on either side of a sofa and couch. Now, put up a painting on the wall, just behind the sofa. This placement will add depth to the room and make it look larger.
