Many of us do not pay much attention to washing clothes, we throw them in the washing machine and select a washing cycle that lasts a short time (usually 1 hour).

But, to enjoy your favorite clothes for as long as possible and to sanitize them properly, it would be good to read and follow the tips below.

Sort clothes correctly

The better you sort the clothes before washing them, the cleaner, fresher the clothes will be and the longer they will last.

For example, put extremely dirty or muddy clothes separately from very dirty ones. Also, wash clothes that have a more abrasive material, such as denim, from those made of more delicate materials.

Bed linen, underwear, and towels are always washed separately, at the highest possible temperature, preferably over 60 degrees.

Wash clothes on the other side

Have you noticed how the material of your clothes often looks much better on the back than on the front? This is especially true for denim clothes or dark pants. Before you put the clothes in the tub, turn them upside down. This will protect the color from the action of the detergent, and the applications on blouses or dresses will last better over time.

Watch out for more delicate items

Wash your bras in a protective bag, with cold water or at a low temperature, with a liquid detergent without abrasive particles, in a cycle for delicate clothes - if you do not want to wash them by hand.

To wash the bathing suit, it is recommended to fill the sink with cold water and add a liquid detergent without abrasive particles and leave the suit in water for 30 minutes. Then rinse lightly and dab with a dry towel.

Dry it on the dryer, possibly without catching it with pliers, as traces may remain from them.

Avoid washing the bathing suit in the washing machine, but if you still want to do it, choose a more gentle washing program and liquid detergent.

Washing printed items

Both printed t-shirts and other inscribed textiles should be given extra attention when it comes to washing.

The most important thing to consider is the temperature of the wash water. In general, this temperature should not exceed 40º Celsius, but there are cases in which the temperature of the wash water should not be higher than 30º Celsius.

It should also be borne in mind that detergents or other washing products (bleaches) that contain chlorine should not be used in washing up textiles.

Pay special attention to dark clothes

When you wash dark or black clothes, some of them may lose their paint and discolor. To keep the color of your clothes the way they were when you bought them, you should follow the tips below:

  • sort the clothes carefully and try to put the black clothes in a separate washing cycle, without mixing them with other colors - this way you will not fill the car excessively and there will be less friction between the clothes.
  • read the clothes labels and follow the washing instructions
  • use a liquid laundry detergent, it is more suitable than a powder - the latter has abrasive particles that discolor the clothes and may leave traces of detergent on the clothes
  • use a special liquid detergent for black or dark clothes
  • wash with cold water, so you will keep the color as long as possible - hot water discolors clothes over time
  • do not wash them more often than necessary

Washing denim items

When we wash our denim pants, they inevitably fade little by little. If you like faded jeans, then you won't have a problem with that.

But if you want to keep their color for as long as possible, here's what you need to do:

  • only wash them when they start to smell!
  • turn them upside down before washing them
  • set a more gentle washing cycle, with cold or warm water and with fewer spin spins (400–600)
  • spread them immediately after the washing program is over and it would be ideal to air dry them

Don't forget to look at the label and see what the washing and ironing instructions are.
