Everyone wants their home to be clean, tidy and safe. There's no lack of cleaning supply options at your local grocery store. However, most of those cleaners come with lots of extra chemical additives that can be dangerous for both humans and the planet. Even though these store-bought cleaning options are often convenient, the price we pay for our health and damage to our environment is not worth it.

Most homeowners have basic items in their home that can be great for cleaning. When done correctly, you will be able to clean your home just as well as using natural cleaning products. Below are some of the best natural cleaning hacks using affordable ingredients you most likely already have in your home.

1. Vinegar and Essential Oils

Vinegar is a great natural cleaning hack that many people have already heard of. Unfortunately, the smell of using vinegar to clean takes some getting used to. There are ways to make the smell less unfavorable by using essential oils. To create a cleaning solution, start with three parts of filtered water. Add one part white vinegar, one or two teaspoons of lemon juice and six drops of your favorite doterra oil distillation. This solution can be used to clean virtually any surface in your home. The best part is being able to use essential oils to tailor it to your favorite aroma.

2. Baking Soda and Borax Mix

If you need something a little more abrasive to clean with, consider the great cleaning power of borax and baking soda. This mixture is similar to the scrubbing power of Comet without the addition of 146 chemical additives. It works perfectly for tough stains in your bathtubs and toilets. To create the mixture, add half a cup of salt and half a cup of borax to one cup of baking soda. Simply smear some of the mixture on the tough stain and gently scrub. Rinse when complete.

3. Vinegar Mixture for Stainless Steel that Sparkles

Stainless steel appliances are very popular in today's modern kitchens. They look very sleek and modern until they are riddled with smudges, water spots and fingerprints. Most commercial stainless steel polishes have monoethanolamine added to them. This can be bad for your skin and can cause issues if inhaled. Instead, try a cleaning hack that uses vinegar and a microfiber cloth. Mix a spray bottle with one part vinegar to two parts of water. Spray the mixture onto your appliance and use a cloth to wipe the solution away. Be sure to go with the grain of your appliance for the best results.

4. Cleaning Floors in a Pinch

Many people love the fresh smell of Pine-Sol to clean their floors. Of course, as with other commercial cleaners, it comes with its own nasty additives that have been linked to various health concerns. Making this floor-cleaning solution takes one tablespoon of liquid Castile soap mixed with four cups of warm water. Add in 15 drops of your favorite essential oils, and you are ready to clean your floors and have them squeaky clean.

5. Freshen the Air Without Damaging Your Lungs

Another great hack for making your bathroom smell fresh without chemical-laden products is to add essential oils to your toilet paper rolls. Each time you take some toilet paper, the movement will release some of the fresh scents into the bathroom. Adding eucalyptus oil with water in a spray bottle can be used to mist your shower walls. This will keep your bathroom smelling great and allows your airways to be opened up when the shower gets steamy.

6. All-Purpose Vodka Cleaning Hack

Vodka has more uses than just a drink for happy hour. It can be used to clean glass, porcelain and chrome fixtures throughout your home. It is a natural disinfectant that will have the surfaces around your home clean and shining like new. You may use the vodka on a cloth or pour some in a spray bottle for easy use.
