All bathrooms need to be upgraded from time to time.

There are rooms in our home that we may simply overlook since we’re used to thinking about them being strictly functional and no more than that. One of them is the bathroom - we may go in and out of it at least two times a day, and we often don’t pay attention to its current state and how it makes us feel.

Having said this, the time we spend there is just as impactful as the time we spend in any other room of the house, so it pays to upgrade it as much and often as we can. However, we don’t really need to burn through our budget or spend a lot of time in order to refresh the bathroom. Instead, we can simply focus on these quick and easy tips:

1. Bring Some Life to It

Never underestimate the way that plants can help turn things around. Regardless if you’re choosing a fully blooming plant or a more classic green-only potted plant, chances are you’ll feel the difference as soon as you walk into the bathroom. It’s true this room of the house is not commonly advertised as the most popular space for plants and that’s exactly why making this small change will translate into a world of difference for the feeling the bathroom will give off.

Smaller potted plants that do well indoors and that are not high maintenance will do just fine for this typically less well-lit room of the house. Also, remember the fact that bathrooms are very humid and warm rooms, so make sure you choose a plant that does well in this environment. Some of the more commonly used bathroom plants are Aloe Vera, spider plant, or staghorn fern.

2. Emphasize Basic Accessories

There are so many bathroom accessories that usually remain in the shadows by having a bland design, when they can in fact uplift the entire room. Take for example the toilet seat - by changing the classic white one with a beautifully made wooden one, you change the entire feel of the room.

The soap and toothbrush holder can also become that much-needed twist in the overall design of the bathroom. Pick colors that speak to you and that give you a positive feeling whenever you see them. As for the other bathroom options, make sure to pick unusual, unique designs that will make your bathroom feel one-of-a-kind. This is a change you can make on a budget, yet the improvement will feel considerable.

3. Exchange the Old for New

There are certain key changes you can make to refresh your bathroom and give it that brand new look that’s invigorating and comforting at the same time. The main piece of any bathroom will always be the vanity - it’s the centerpiece that ties everything together and where we spend so much time brushing our teeth or washing our hands.

This is why it’s worth setting some money aside and exchanging the old vanity for a new one that has a fresh, special design. With this change, everything will improve in the bathroom. It’s also worth paying attention to the faucets and the showerhead, since they too come in a wide variety of designs, so you can pick the one that best suits your taste. If you really want to switch things up and are willing to go to the next level, you can opt for some high-quality branded products like a basin set brushed in gold or a matte black shower. All these bathroom improvements will ultimately give you a sense of well-being and of belonging to your own home.

4. Emphasize Texture and Color

We are such visual creatures, that we most likely will notice any difference in color and texture around us. Make sure you look around your bathroom and look for anything that can get an upgrade in this department. Look at the shower curtains - maybe it’s time for a newer, more upbeat version with vibrant colors and higher-quality textures that soothes the eye and does better when washed and prepped for hanging.

If your towels are nearing the end of their life span, don’t hesitate to change them for new ones, with a better thread count and with just the right color to suit the space (you can either match or contrast, entirely up to you). Apart from being functional, when in plain sight, towels are also important accessories that can define the entire aesthetic of the bathroom. Additionally, if you have any mats or carpets on the bathroom floor, consider giving them an upgrade as well.

As you can see, there are some really simple ways in which you can spruce up your bathroom and make it feel livelier and fresher than ever. It’s ultimately all about looking around this room of your home with a fresh set of eyes, with creativity and a desire to leave the old behind and start fresh.

You’ll quickly see that with every small change you implement, your bathroom will gradually feel like an entirely new room, bringing you increased vitality and comfort at the same time.
