3 Tips For Creating A Bright And Airy Bedroom You Love

If you’re like most people, your bedroom isn’t necessarily your favorite room in the house. And although it may not be your favorite room, having an inviting and beautiful bedroom is important because it’s where you spend the largest portion of your time sleeping and relaxing. Or preparing yourself to face the day ahead. And while there are many ways to design an inviting and comfortable bedroom, one of the best ways to do so is to create a bright and airy space that you love being in no matter what time of day it is.

1) Add Natural Light

Most homes are built with light-blocking dark colors on their interior walls, blocking much of a room’s natural light. If you’re trying to create a bright and airy bedroom but want to avoid an overwhelmingly white space, choose lighter shades in soft muted colors like green or blue.

Paint large expanses of your walls one color, but then accent them with lighter, brighter colors on smaller pieces of furniture and artwork. The combination will create depth without making your room feel too dark or overwhelming — perfect for creating a modern bedroom that you love!

There’s no better way to create a sense of space and light in your bedroom than with natural light. It’s a cheap, easy trick for making your space feel more open.

Even if you don’t have windows, try adding mirrors to reflect light; it works just as well. Use curtains or blinds to control when natural light comes into your bedroom and make sure they are white or very neutral so they add more brightness instead of casting other colors onto your walls.

Open up your home by adding a skylight or an oversized window. Skylights and windows are both easy to install and incredibly effective, at least when it comes to natural light.

Adding skylights can make your bedroom seem brighter, but be sure that you get permission before drilling into your ceiling. If you don’t have a finished attic above your bedroom (which is probably why you want to add a skylight), installation could be difficult.

2) Get Rid Of Heavy Drapes

Drapes may provide privacy and help maintain temperature, but they can also make a room feel dark and heavy. Instead of investing in expensive drapes, try lighter-weight fabrics to help brighten up your bedroom.

Light-colored sheers are a good option if you need privacy or want to reflect sunlight into your room. If you don’t mind leaving an area uncovered, try more sheer curtains or lightweight cotton fabric — either way, it’ll make your room look brighter.

Even if it doesn’t work for every room in your house, consider doing away with heavy draperies in at least one space — your bedroom is a great place to start.

Window treatments can make or break a room, and heavy drapes can weigh down a room. To create a bright, airy bedroom you love, get rid of those heavy drapes and opt for light curtains that let in lots of natural light (or none at all).

Even just taking down your drapes will instantly open up your bedroom. If you need to keep out some light because you are sensitive to it, try replacing your heavy black-out curtains with sheer ones so that you still enjoy plenty of natural light.

Those heavy drapes you have covering your bedroom windows might make your room look swanky, but they’re also going to block out a lot of light.

Instead, opt for lighter-colored curtains, or even better, get rid of them completely and instead use blinds. This will give you more privacy and airiness — two things that are important for creating a bright bedroom.

3) Use Lighter Colors

Letting in lots of natural light is a great way to brighten up your bedroom. When you’re ready to paint, choose lighter colors. Those with lower energy will give off a warm and inviting feeling while still letting in plenty of light.

This means you can be as colorful as you want inside and still let in tons of sunlight through your windows. In addition to choosing lighter colors for your walls, opt for lighter shades of furniture and decor, too.

Light-colored curtains are a good option because they’ll add to your already bright room; choose white or off-white for best results. Save window treatments that are dark or deep in color for when your blinds are closed so you don’t miss out on all that natural lighting!

Light colors make rooms feel airier and more spacious. Dark colors, on the other hand, can be stifling. Even if you love black metal accents or dark wood furniture, there’s no need to include those elements in your bedroom — black is best reserved for dramatic accents.

Instead of charcoal-colored walls or bedding, paint your bedroom a soft gray or a pale shade of blue. White linens also reflect light beautifully, which makes it a top choice when it comes to bedroom decorating.

One of the easiest ways to give your bedroom a bright and airy feel is by painting all four walls white or a light color. The lighter hue brightens up the space, making it feel larger and more open.

It’s much easier to breathe in an airy room! If you like the color but don’t want it throughout your entire bedroom, paint one wall a different hue than any other.
