1. the toilet brush

When was the last time you consciously checked to see if your toilet brush was still OK? If you're like me, you probably avoid looking closely. But once in a while, you have to take care of it, preferably before the contamination is so evident that everyone notices it immediately.

You should not clean the brush itself. You can put it in the dishwasher, of course, but honestly - would you want to eat from the plates you wash in the same machine later? So you better replace the brush as soon as it becomes ugly.

You should clean the toilet brush holder regularly, though. If you wear gloves, it's not as disgusting.

2. the remote control

You touch your remote control several times a day, and otherwise, it lies open on the table all day and is exposed to the dust that is always flying around in the air.

Nevertheless, we very rarely clean our remote controls. Usually, it takes a few weeks before the dirt becomes so apparent that we can't ignore it anymore.

But even before that, so many germs and viruses can have accumulated on it that every touch becomes a real health risk.

So wipe your remote controls regularly with a disinfectant wipe.

3. the controls on your cooker

When cooking, splashes of fat and other impurities get onto the temperature controls of your stove. But when you turn the oven off, you turn the knobs so that the dirty side of the knob faces down, so that it disappears from your direct view. This is why we usually forget to clean these knobs,

So when cleaning the house, turn each controller once and check whether the underside is dirty.

4. refrigerator

In our home, the refrigerator is usually brimful. As a result, the shelves and the back wall are no longer visible at all. But even if you can't see them, they still get dirty.

To discover and remove the dirt, you first have to remove everything from the refrigerator. Because this seems to be very difficult, most people do without it and let the fridge get dirtier and dirtier and more unhygienic over time.

But clearing out a refrigerator is much faster than you think. Within a few minutes, it is done, and we can store our fresh food in the fridge again without worries.

5. curtains

Whoever has curtains knows that these are real dust magnets. Especially directly above the floor, they absorb a lot of dirt.

When vacuuming, you should, therefore, always consider the lower areas of the curtains. Also, curtains should be removed and washed at least once a year, as they absorb dirt as well as unpleasant odors.

6. shower head

The showerhead is often not cleaned thoroughly because people do not know how to do it best. With detergent and a sponge, it is almost impossible to get rid of the calcification on the nozzles.

For this reason, many give up at some point and let the shower head calcify until hardly any water comes through and then simply buy a new one.

But there is an easy way to clean the showerhead. Fill a small plastic bag with some vinegar and put the bag over the showerhead so that it is completely immersed in the vinegar. Then knot the bag to the showerhead and let the vinegar soak in for a few hours.

After that, the showerhead is as new.

7. vacuum cleaner

You probably use your vacuum cleaner regularly to clean your floors. But have you ever thought that the vacuum cleaner also needs cleaning?

The exterior of the case gets as dirty as any other surface in the house. You should, therefore, regularly wipe the outside of your vacuum cleaner with a damp cloth.

But it is much more vital that you check the filters inside the vacuum cleaner from time to time. Depending on the model, there may be different filters in the vacuum cleaner.

Check the instructions for use for your appliance and make sure that the exhaust air filters and motor filters are mentioned. Then open the vacuum cleaner, find these filters, and clean them.

This will maintain the functionality and performance of your vacuum cleaner in the long run.

8. light switch and doorknobs

Just like your remote control, you touch light switches and doorknobs every day. Apart from viruses and germs, you are mainly transmitting sweat and fat.

Light switches and doorknobs will quickly become unsightly if you don't wipe them down thoroughly regularly.

With light switches, they also collect dust on the top of the frame.

9. medicine cabinet (old medicines)

Over the years, we buy many remedies for colds, pains, and many other ailments and store them in our medicine cabinet. At some point, the illness is over, but there are still remains of the medicine.

These remains accumulate and block space in the cabinet. It does not make sense to store them forever, because even medicines have an expiry date and are no longer active at some point.

So it is best to clean out your cupboard once a year. But please do not simply throw the old medicines into the trash. Drugs can otherwise end up in the environment if they are not disposed of properly.

So take your old medicines to a collection point or the pharmacy. There they will be disposed of properly.

10. the skirting boards

The skirting boards are the thing I ignore most in the household. When I clean the floors, I usually don't have the time or desire to take care of the skirting boards afterward. That's why often months go by before I take care of them.

Once a year, however, everyone should at least look after the skirting boards, because they will get dirty no matter how well you look after your floors.

Go through your home and take a good look at your skirting boards. You will find that you have neglected them for too long.
