Spread your wings.

Do you ever feel depressed? Or that you are watching the time pass while sitting idly by? Trust me, we have all been there. My first suggestion would be to immediately adopt a kitten or a puppy, but that isn't always doable, is it? Below, I have listed ten things, although seeming trivial at first, will greatly improve your quality of living.

1. Invest in a Journal

Although this may seem like a chore at first, I have found that once I got into the habit of journaling, it had a huge impact on my life. A personal journal is a good place to channel your emotions and also reflect on the day. Journaling can lead to self-discovery and peace of mind. My suggestion would be to add journaling to your nighttime routine. While you're winding down for the night and getting underneath the covers, grab your journal and, for a brief five minutes, jot down your thoughts about the day and maybe your hopes for tomorrow. Also, being able to flip back and read about influential moments in your life is just priceless. Keeping a journal is a good way to witness personal growth first hand.

2. Buy the thing that you have been eyeing online for a while now.

You aren't alone, we all do this. Whether it be sitting at home or in the office, lamenting over those overpriced shoes will get you nowhere. Instead, maybe cut back on your living expenses so that you can splurge and buy something to make you happy? So go out and get yourself that new Fitbit, or iPhone X. What good is money if you can't spend it, am I right?

3. Redecorate Your Bedroom

None of us have the time or money to fully renovate and redesign our bedroom, but getting a little creative wouldn't kill you. So my friend, head on over to Pinterest for some trendy, easy, and affordable, styles for your bedroom. First, start by going through all of your things, and establish what you want, and what has to go. Bonus: you can even sell some of the things you don't want anymore online for some extra cash.

4. Learn a Second Language

I know what you must be thinking: Who has the time to learn a second language? Bare with me. In this day and age, learning a second language has been made so much easier. If you didn't already know, there are plenty of free languagelearning programs available at your fingertips. It is super easy, all you have to do is set five to ten minutes aside each day and dedicate it to language learning. Learning a language does take time, so understand that this would be a longterm thing. But with enough effort put forth, this can be worth your while. Duolingo is a good place to start.

5. Go on a Jog

Even if you aren't the most active person, going on a 20-minute jog is a great way to clear your mind. It has been scientifically proven that starting your day off with a 20-minute jog can help your brain absorb information faster and work more efficiently. Followed by a cold shower, this a great way to start your day off right with some zing!

6. Get in Touch With an Old Friend

Put social media to good use by talking to that friend you have lost touch with over the years. It would really make that person's day to know that you cared enough to reach out to them. Just start by simply saying that you were thinking about them and wanted to know how they were doing. If you're an overachiever, you could even FaceTime the person because, let's face it, texting has taken over your life.

7. Change up Your Look

If you want to really spice things up, take a trip to the hair salon and consider a new cut. Maybe try getting some trendy side bangs, or getting highlights to brighten up your look. Also, maybe try some new clothing styles, you might even find one you really like.

8. Bake!

Baking isn't for everyone but can bring people together in so many ways. If you don't really consider yourself a baker, look online for some beginner recipes and you will surely find something easy and delicious. Everyone needs a little sweetness once in a while! If you wanted to, you could even bring some of your yummy treats into the office or for a friend. They would really see this as a nice gesture and hopefully, one day, return the favor. Or, of course, you could keep it all to yourself because you deserve it.

9. Throw a Party

Although they can be a lot of work, parties bring people together and are an excuse to have a great time. Parties are often perceived as an insane amount of people coming over, breaking things, and drinking too much beer. Well, in real life, a party doesn't have to be this way. Invite over a few close friends and maybe just order Chinese food and watch a movie. It is so easy to have a great time and you don't even need the crowd and the booze!

10. Sit Down and Binge Watch

Sometimes, all you need to do is sit down and watch some bad quality TV. It may be a complete waste of time, but as long as it makes you happy, everything is OK. I feel that you have to do whatever makes you happy, and if you have a secret obsession with Keeping Up with the Kardashians, go for it. Why not add a pint of Ben and Jerry'sjust for kicks?

I hope these tips gave you some ideas on how to lead a more interesting life, that you can look back on and be proud of. The bottom line is that if you aren't happy, what's the point? Sometimes, you have to be a little selfish and think about yourself once in a while. Speaking of being selfish, now I think I'm going to treat myself to some ice cream because why the hell not?
