WordAds is a connected revenue source for WordPress users.

Rather than write this article as a fact based article, I am going to take a more personal tone. Share a bit of my journey ect and how I made my first $100 month on WordAds.

I've been writing online on and off for years. I'm by no means a good writer, but I have my fair share of experience when it comes to earning money on the internet.

I started back in 2009 or thereabouts, when I found Triond. They paid you jo publish everything from photos to long, well researched articles. I learned a lot. How to get traffic, SEO (although I am a little bit dusty with this now) and through networking at the time, came across other platforms to make money on such as Squidoo. (Some of you may remember this), and blogger. Blogger is pretty much where I have been since last October (2020). It was a simple platform and I was making small amounts of money from various blogs. But I had plans in my personal life that meant if I could start earning more online, those plans and dreams would become realistic.

My leap to WordPress

I had previously signed up for WordPress but it had always seemed a daunting platform, especially when one was used to Blogger. But in October 2020 I took the time to get to know the platform and realised it wasn't as bad as I had first imagined. (Nothing ever is!)

So I signed up, started posting content and realised that there was a revenue stream connected to WordPress where I could earn money from placing ads on my site. I could take the long route to this which would be applying and waiting to get approved, or I could upgrade my WordPress blog and place WordAds on my site instantly. Being impatient and having the funds to upgrade, I took the risk.

At first, I was pretty disappointed in what I was seeing when it came to CPM rates. Some days were as little as $0.02. 2 cents for 1000 views? I was starting to regret my decision to upgrade. But something told me to persevere.

Ten months on and I have had CPM rates of up to $0.75, which again, isn't fantastic, but.... I have, as an example, 4 ads per page. I get 1000 views. That translates to 4000 ad views, give or take. So, although the CPM rate is $0.75, I actually made $3.00 from those 1000 views.

As the website becomes more established and there is more traffic, the CPM rate has improved, however there are still days when it is relatively low, and other days when it surprises me and I get a great CPM. If you are just starting out using WordAds, I would definitely try to be patient. If you have a website that gets enough traffic, then you will see improvements. Weighing up whether or not it is worth paying to upgrade and get paying ads on your site straight away or not may be a gamble, but there are different payment options.

A lot of articles I see online dismiss WordAds as a terrible alternative to Google Adsense, but as with anything, it can take time to stabilize.

I would certainly give it a try, especially if you get denied with Google Adsense.

WordPress also allow you to put affiliate links on your website with certain packages. I am also earning around 50% of my total website earnings through affiliate sales.

Please note: I have added the average CPM for each month, however this is the average. I have had days where the CPM has been $0.75 and in the same month days where it has been $0.10

My best WordAds day so far was in June when I made $32.72 in one day.
