Some writers will at times write pieces that suggest that there are some easier ways to climb the giant mountain of writing. They’d try to present themselves as one super writer that has figured it all out.

But the truth is that those writers that inundate us with articles on how they made a lot of money from writing haven’t figured it all out.

And everyone can’t achieve success by taking the same steps you took because every writer approach writing differently. So it’s wrong to make claims that some of the things that worked for you will equally work for everyone.

Writing is infinite and full of many unknowns. You can only draw any amount of the treasures you can at your own time. But you definitely can’t draw out all that you can get from the craft. Because immediately you reach the top of the cliff, you’ll find out that there’s another cliff to climb. And it goes on like that until you’re unable to climb anymore.

It’s an open secret

How to make money writing is an open secret, but everyone isn’t applying what they know. It is simple to mention, easy to figure out, but really difficult to put into practice. It is why the top will always be vacant and why the ground level will always be flooded with dull stars that are yet to shine.

You don’t control the outcome

You don’t know what’d become of every story you put out there. You don’t know whether it’d be read by only one person or whether it’d be consumed by many.

Thus no writer can fathom which story will go viral or which story is going to remain evergreen.

Writers that have published one or more viral stories can’t exactly say how they managed to achieve that. If they know how to always craft a viral piece, then they’d have written many more viral stories.

What you must know

There are absolutely no shortcuts to finding yourself at the apogee of your writing journey. Or for making any amount of money that you desire from the craft.

You must take your shot consistently. And you must always take it very well.

Because any attempt to take a shortcut to quickly arrive at the desired outcome will return you to the basics of the game which of course is to write, fail, learn and grow.

Every result you’ll get from writing is anchored to the process. If you enjoy the process and as a result put in a lot of good effort then your own time of clearing impressive paychecks isn’t very far. But if the process irritates you, then there might not be any big paycheck for you.

You’ll read about many writing tips. And there’ll be many lessons along the journey for you. But you’ll be the one to teach yourself the best tips and lessons as you progress in the journey by remaining committed to the craft because doing is learning.

Therefore appreciate your small beginnings, enjoy the process and always focus on adding values through the craft.

Every rejection will imbue you to write better. And every success no matter how small will always remind you that you’re on track.

Writing is so long and so deep that even the well-established writers would sometimes feel like they don’t know what they’re doing. Regardless of how much they’ve accomplished from the craft, famous writers still find themselves learning and growing.

And this reminds them that what they’ve achieved is little compared to what the craft has in stock for them. It reminds them that there is still a lot to learn. And that they’d never be able to figure everything out.

This is why everyone has enough space in his or her path. It is also why everyone succeeds in his or her brand of writing. And why there’ll always be enough space for every writer to succeed and thrive in due time.

Consistency is what makes it happen.

You have to do the work. You have to pay the price. Because you can’t birth a child without labor. Or without experiencing some kind of pain. You also can’t find yourself at the top of the ladder without first taking the small steps and making efforts that’ll lift you from the ground level.

Also, there are truths about writing that favor every writer. Nevertheless, some truths favor some writers but might not favor you especially when you’re still trying to carve a niche for yourself as a writer. Therefore always apply the truths that are relevant to you in particular — and on what you’re working on.
