We all want a platform where through writing we can express ourselves and show who we are. Considering all the bottlenecks that come with hosting your own Domain and paying a monthly fee for web hosting.

We see Medium. It is easy to use, and it already has a large and regular amount of monthly users who come to read articles.

It’s free to use since it doesn’t for you to pay for monthly payment for web hosting. You avoid most hassles that you would have faced say you were hosting your own domain.

There are publications for each specific topic which you would like to share your point of view onto. So with these benefits it offers, you come here and easily flock to medium.

But Here are some reasons you should consider as a relatively new writer who has zero experience in writing articles before,

Especially those lacking the marketing skills which are required as a prerequisite to get exposure.

Problem With The Major Publications

You come here to medium enroll yourself as a new writer. Then you’re done writing your first article. At first glance, you see all of these major publications with 200k to 500k monthly readers.

You give in to your impulses, then you try to publish to them, but what happens is that you have a huge chance of getting rejected.

With all of these writers flocking to them and making submissions, the editors have to select only the best. Some of these publications even have a 70% to 90% rejection rate.

So it would be once in a blue moon, that you would get accepted with your very first article and make it up to that far. Most new writers don’t get accepted until they’re very 10th or 15th article.

Problem With Minor Publications

After getting rejected from the Major publications, you try to get a spot onto the minor ones. These smaller publications can also be a pain in the ass sometimes.

When you try to publish to them, The most likely thing to happen although this is rare is either that the editor completely changes your words within the article or that their amount of readers is very low which you won’t be able to make any income off of it,

if you’re looking to make medium as your only source of income, especially if you’re a new writer.

Difficulty Finding an audience

Medium although it has a substantial amount of monthly visitors, yet with counting all that competition against more than 30k writers in addition to getting rejected most of the time from publications.

The effort, persistence, consistency, and stamina required to not only build an audience but to keep it up is staggering.

Those are gonna have a really hard time, especially if they don’t have a large following and don’t have the necessary marketing skills to get it.

No Ads

While Medium boasts itself as a site where writers aren’t awarded by advertisers but by readers themselves.

This although it is great for readers who get irritated when their screens are bombarded with ads like in other websites,

It isn’t full of joys of spring for new writers whose content rarely gets read, especially when payment is based on readers’ time.

the paywall can also be avoided when one person is in the incognito mode which can also lead to a reduction in payments.

While if ads are available the writer can still make an income even if his content won’t be read if the reader clicks onto the ads he is interested in.

Medium’s Problem With Plagiarism

While Plagiarism happens almost everywhere on the internet and medium is no exception to this, it has a unique case here.

While Other Sites such as Wattpad or Sitepoint Offer some sort of protection when plagiarism is done of your written work within their sites.

Medium doesn’t offer any such sort of protection except in cases where it’s protected by copyright law.

So doing all that hard work only gets plagiarized and have somebody else get all that publicity of your work is seriously frustrating.
