WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

Let’s Cook!

I remember the last time I had to answer this question. It was a Thursday evening service in the church.

The preacher gave an illustration of a man who was complaining of hunger.

He entered the kitchen. He opened the cupboard and saw sachets of spaghetti, sachets of tomato, and seasoning. He went on to open the fridge and found pepper, sausage, chicken, and meat in it.

He closed the fridge, left the kitchen, and went on to keep complaining of hunger.

What a wise man!

After the preacher said that that day, it felt like he was talking to me, my friend felt the same. I remember that night as we walked home, we began to talk about what we had in the kitchen of our lives, of what use each ingredient was, how much it could be of help, and so much more.

After that night, I guess we locked the door of the kitchen or even forgot we had a kitchen because we went on to complain about our pitiable states again.

Last Sunday, a different preacher mentioned it again, this time with a different illustration.

He talked about a man who prayed for rain, and when it began to rain, he entered inside and covered himself with a blanket.

They seem like two different but similar illustrations, but he ended by asking, “What do you have?” That returned me to the illustration of the last preacher.

This is me and a million others; we complain of hunger and are given an entire kitchen, yet do nothing, and go on to complain of hunger.

So, dear you and I, It's time to get into the kitchen of our lives and cook.

So what do you say we cook?

Yes?

Let’s cook, then.
