Vocal Changed My Life

Here's some background information on yours truly. Believe it or not, but I used to be a prolific writer and poet, with aspersions to become either a well-known poet or a famous fantasy/romance author by the time I was 19-years-old. Big dreamer I was! However, adult life isn't so simple.

Writing has been a significant part of my life since my teenage years, and nothing has changed. Well, that's not entirely true, everything has changed. I went from being an angsty teen girl with severe anxiety, chronic depression, self-harm, and suicidal tendencies to a grown adult working two jobs that attended college at the same time. I had no time for anything fun or creative, so I stopped writing altogether. Stricken by reality, I didn't think it was possible to do it again and still be productive. But I was wrong.

Back in January of this year, I was scrolling through Facebook and came across an ad for Vocal Media, a community for writing, sharing, and publishing your literary works. I was reluctant but started reading comments and reviews about how amazing it was, so I pushed the screw it button and signed up. My trial was cheap, and the platform was easy to use. I was sold on the idea of creating and publishing my writing with no cost to me, unless I wanted to, and having access to various groups of passionate creators like myself.

As of May, I'm celebrating my four-month anniversary on the site, and I'm feeling great! Because of Vocal, I am:

Writing every day

Every day, even if it's a little bit, I write something. It might be editing a work in progress, trying to finish a challenge submission or a spontaneous poem. Keeping a routine is essential for a creative mind! You never know when an idea will pop into your head, so remaining vigilant is crucial.

Keeping a journal

I regularly keep track of my daily routine, work schedule, and any crazy details that might have happened. Who knows, it might make a good story someday.

Engaging with other writers

Instead of keeping to myself about my writing, I'm branching out through social media networks, Reddit, writing groups found through Google to connect and work with other writers. We help each other through critique, feedback, and praise to achieve a common goal, to become a confident creator.

Loving my writing

Honestly, right now, I'm in love with my writing. I don't feel scared, stressed, or intimidated anymore. While there are faults, every day, I'm improving as a writer.

Creating more

I'm creating more literary work in the last four months than I have ever done in my teenage years. For the past decade, I have been in a slump, unable to pull myself out of it, but now? Fireworks! In conclusion, Vocal has improved my productivity.

After more than 600 reads and 30+ publications, I still find myself getting excited over starting a new project. I look forward to the long hours, the editing, the proofreading, the scrolling through images on Upsplash, the queries for the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, all of it. Because of Vocal, I fell back in love with writing. It changed my life for the better.

Recommending it

For these reasons and many more, I'm recommending Vocal.media to any up-and-coming writer. It will allow individuals to read content, create their own, and promote works from other creators that need a boost.

Until next time, keep on typing!
