Us vs A.I.

The world has certainly changed a lot hasn’t it?

We’re living in a day in age where life is moving at a digital pace. We literally do everything online and in the palm of our hands, do we not? I mean, we don’t just interact with each other by means of social media platforms all on our mobile devices, all of which is done digitally, we also have learned to generate income in this technologically advanced modern society. With all the new pathways that have been opened thanks to modern technology, we have also inadvertently created a society where mankind is becoming obsolete against the machine of technology. In comes Artificial intelligence.

As predicted in our favorite sci-fi films from the 80’s and the 90’s, the biggest brains on the planet have finally developed artificial intelligence. A self aware digital world that is quickly becoming the standard for how society operates. You can go on google and any social media platform that exist and what do you know? Meta AI and Chat GPT will tell you whatever you wanna know. Even more intriguing, A.I. has been formatted to carry out task and jobs digitally, especially that of which was originally done by mankind’s natural instincts and imagination.

Back in the summer of 2023 I attended Galaxycon in Raleigh. I’m a big nerd so I always attend my favorite conventions. While there I met the actress Mara Wilson, famously known for her role as Matilda Wormwood in the 90’s children fantasy film Matilda. Before I met her and we got a photo I overheard her talking with another fan about the impact of A.I. and I remember hearing her talking about how A.I. was even effecting the world of show biz. At the time I didn’t fully grasp what she meant, but fast forward three years later and I now know exactly what she meant.

In this new day in age that I personally refer to as the “Warring 20’s” the landscape of A.I. allows humanity to replicate human identity in the digital world. We’ve all seen it. Pictures, videos and even audio of real people can be engineered by A.I. with no direct connection to the actual person. A.I. can also be used to create digital identities that don’t even exist beyond the world of the digital realm. Unfortunately that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A.I. can also be used to perform jobs and even create artistry that originally required the pure effort of humanity and that there lies the plight of the modern artist.

Artificial intelligence allows every piece of art we love, whether it be film, music, or even literature to be engineered with no genuine human effort needed and because of this many artist are in fear of being replaced. First off let’s not minimize the appealing risk. What takes the human artist months or even years to create can be created by A.I. in mere minutes…or even seconds. Even right here on our Platform of Vocal media. I remember when it was against platform policy to use A.I. and now it’s become one of the platform’s most used tools.

Yes, artificial intelligence has become a very formidable opponent against the genuine efforts we create, but as cliche as it sounds I’m here to tell you not to fret. As technical and capable as A.I. may be, one thing it doesn’t have is soul. On a Sunday afternoon, A.I. is fast food and human creativity is soul food. A.I. is definitely fast and efficient, but it’ll never touch the soul the way the real McCoy does. I’ve learned from personal experience that when you write from your heart, speak from your heart and perform from your heart you can and will make it.

Artificial intelligence is an obstacle and it may be fast, it may be smart and very abundant, but we can make it through its barrier, because as Disney land as it sounds, A.I. has the brain, but it doesn’t have the heart to connect with the heart like we do. A.I. doesnt have the personal struggle that your fellow man can relate to, therefore, it can’t replace the identity it doesn’t have. That identity is us.
